Updated Army Service Dress project

I would agree. Partly though...

We needed amalgamation of a lot of efforts, and we got those in most cases; unification (including dress and insignia) was overkill and did more damage than good.

I hope the ghost of Old Man Heyller is tortured in seeing it all unraveling 60 years after the fact...

The amalgamation of systems and processes is where it should have ended.

Is it? Or is just up to corps to determine? I’ll take a gander around acims tomorrow maybe.
The BN I saw on SPO stated that Rifle Green is going to be solely a Light Infantry option. Support components will be moving to Army Blue, armoured will be sticking with black, the line infantry (less Highland/Irish units) will have to decide between Khaki or Army Blue.

I am happy to be corrected.

I still find it hilarious a photo of him in front of a sailor in Square Rig was used in all the articles about his passing.

That happened almost seven years ago.

SO....will the PPCLI get a green beret? Being the words "Light Infantry" are in the name....although we have never been truly "light"

With the RCE, RCMS, RCLS, and "Land DEU" members of various branches (Legal, PA, PSEL, etc) all opting out and sticking with rifle green.

The BN I read earlier this month (dated 2025) stated the move to Army Blue was no longer optional for those organizations with the new uniform coming out.

I think "default" is meant in the sense that multiple corps use blue.

Three, but more use green.

Light infantry by tradition or by role lol. It seems like a weird thing to connect to the new service dress given that berets are worn in all orders of dress.

Let's go with 'tradition' because we know that a rational approach will be futile in the long run ;)

Could it possibly be that Rifle Regiments will be keeping the Rifle Green berets?

Are the peaked caps not supposed to be worn by most units with the new uniform?

In the old puttees days blue was the standard colour for all army branches without a specific colour of their own. Artillery wore blue. Rifles green. "Royal" infantry regiments red. And so on. My guess is that folks will be going back to the pre-unification colours.

Could it possibly be that Rifle Regiments will be keeping the Rifle Green berets?
I'd guess, yes.

That was one of those old things too. Berets were worn in the field, with coveralls and by new recruits. Once you got the equivalent of PCF, you graduated to peaked caps (and in my case gunner belt buckle and white lanyard) to wear with both Battle Dress in garrison and with TWs and Blues.

The blue hats will go over badly, if the Sigs and Arty guys are any example. The people who held an affinity for those blue berets are very detached from the people manning guns and working radios. The artillery NCOs I know took the change more as a slap to the face than on the back. Oh well once everyone wears it’ll be the same as green in ten years… which of course just goes to the point if we already have a standard colour what’s gained by changing it.
