Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Trump disinvites Canada from Board of Peace in open letter to Carney

Episode 2 Whatever GIF

Good.

At least we'll have an alibi when it all comes crashing down in a huge mess.

Episode 2 Whatever GIF
Dammit I was gonna post the same story with the same gif.

Yeah- what an adorable little fit of pique by Trump. It’s already quite obvious the whole western world, including us, has been at best politely noncommittal, while having zero real interest.

When the initial invitation was made, before the terms and conditions were made clear, it seemed initially like a tight knit group focused on Gaza. Once it became clear Trump just wants his own security council, with blackjack and hookers, any non-dictatorial players lost interest fast. He’s gonna put together a round table of autocracies but that’s about it.

That’s not to say that, given the heavy middle eastern presence, this may not bring some of the right people to the same table to talk on Gaza. But clearly his ambitions for this body go well beyond that. They will not be achieved.

I ended up posting it in the Hamas thread before I saw it was already here.

So let me get this straight....

Trump asks Canada for one billion Canadian tax dollars to join some globalist scheme to rebuild the Middle East pitched at the World Economic Forum.

And the Carney Liberals essentially declined / got disinvited.

It's going to be interesting to see how Maple MAGA and the pro-Trump WEF conspiracy crowd spin this one!

Why thank you for the invitation... 😉

Personally, I'm glad Canada isn't going to be a part of that (for now) - although I have a feeling it may weaken us economically & diplomatically down the road.

A billion dollars is a lot of money, and quite frankly it's money we don't have. With an $84B deficit in the last federal budget, I hope/want the federal government to start penny pinching as much as reasonably possible.

And Gaza already receives a lot of Canadian tax dollars in foreign aid as it is.

i realize that the $1B 'entrance fee' is intended to be used for reconstruction, but I suspect that at least some of that money would have been squandered away on administrative costs anyway

We also have to remember, the plans the US, Israel, and others (Qatar, Dubai, etc) have for Gaza aren't well known outside of a fairly small group of people...

But Gaza isn't going to be rebuilt to what it was before Israel's military campaign - and until those final plans are announced to the public, it's probably wise not to dive in head first.

Especially as a politician in a country that has largely opposed Israel's actions there, and has a minority government, so could be facing an election in the near-ish future.

...

Future plans for Gaza??

Hint hint - there was a massive natural gas reserve found underneath the general area that Gaza sits on - and there have been plans drawn up on the infrastructure needed to extract that resource for a while now.

My guess is that Gaza will not be rebuilt to be a primarily residential/commercial area for Palestinians the way it was prior to Israel's military campaign...

Now whether this whole thing happened because of that discovery, I'll leave that for my fellow conspiracy theorists to tackle...

(And f**k the WEF. All of em. Especially Starmer.)

The UK has already said no, France as well. Australia, Germany, Japan and a significant number of others haven’t said yes yet as well. With Canada, the UK and France on the ‘no’ side, I suspect the majority of the above will follow suit as well.
Trump is pissed off that the vast of majority of European countries are not going to be in the Board of Peace. It’s a clear sign of Europe/Canada ‘breaking’ with the US in this. Hungary will be Hungary, fine, who cares, in bed with Trump and Putin already, enjoy.

Looking into it more, it looks like Canada was willing to be on the board but not willing to pay to be on it.

Very Canadian of us, I am not surprised Trump pulled the invitation. I wouldn’t offer it to freeloaders either.
