Mods, would this be better in the pipelines thread?

I'm sure things will progress swimmingly, until Brookfield receives its multi millions, if not billions, of dollars for the carbon capture infrastructure and initiative in Alberta.

What are you suggesting? The federal government will approve a provincial/private consortium to build a pipeline… and then I guess years later after some separate carbon capture project is complete, suddenly they’ll order a halt to construction or operations? Not sure what fiendish plot you’re suggesting here.

Given that Brookfield is a majority owner of one of the major pipeline networks from the oil sands, as well major involvement in natural gas and distillate distribution, I guess we need to accept an unlimited potential for goalpost shifting, however this all plays out. I’ll laugh my ass off if Brookfield Infrastructure Partners or another Brookfield subsidiary ends up in partnership with Alberta on this.

My opinion and its just that

The carbon capture and storage is the ultimate two sided fail safe for PM MC. It allows Mark to look like he is reaching out a helping hand to the oil and gas industry while setting himself up to stay strong with the anti-energy/green crowd, especially in Ontario and Quebec.

Its very difficult, highly expensive and somewhat dangerous to do with todays technology. Its not likely to attract private industry investment as their is little to no way to make any money off of it. It basically becomes a massive expense for nothing but to make people feel better. It really deters private interest. And it really doesn't do anything for ecological health. If a child who cleans his room by hiding everything under the bed, hasn't actually cleaned his room at all. Just moved it out of sight.

What the hell do you think storing Carbon underground does? And it has had dangerous consequences as in the USA a few years ago when it leaked and killed livestock.

Their is a natural way to store carbon, Trees, grassy meadows and other plant life, suck up carbon and store it safely (and in useful form to boot)

Former Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay help establish Carbon Capture in the pathways project and she has said its an out of date concept and we need to halt it now for the good of the economy.

Ok, but I’m not here debating carbon capture. I was just asking what he was talking about.
