Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

You think the very kind characterisation of Trump as "an undisciplined bully and thug who also happens to bound on destroying Canada...." as emotional?

That is a statement of opinion (if not fact), not emotion, although the argument to bolster is easy to make, as it seems, based on observation of his actions, that he acts and talks like a bully., a thug, is demonstrably undisciplined, and wants to punish Canada.

Oof

Isn't this what people wanted?

Cutting the bureaucracy in Ottawa?

Everyone goes on and on about it but then it actually happens and people post stuff like this.

Fun fact, most positions in the federal bureaucracy exist for a reason.

Well one could argue its a provincial responsibility any way so this is realigning with what federal responsibilities actually are

I do, just like I think DJTs instigating outbursts are emotionally based. That doesn't mean you're wrong.

If you are offended in some way here that was not the intent, in fact I recognized and understand where you are coming.

I said earlier, cooler heads need to prevail here.

I thought we had politicians so the unwashed masses couldn't make these kinds of fool hardy decisions ?

Caps not cuts?

If the federal government shouldn't maintain emergency coordination because provinces have primary responsibility, should it also eliminate national coordination for floods, hurricanes, pandemics, or other disasters that are also primarily managed by provinces?

We do.

That said, we cannot complain too hard when politicians lie to us when we want them to lie to us so that they don't listen to us and do stuff like this.

Im not saying eliminate but there is a fair bit of room for us to shift some ownership back to the provinces

They already have ownership of fire fighting though. I read this as reducing federal coordination capacity.

Not a political video, I know. But super relevant to our current discussion, re Canadian assistance to the US in firefighting

Nothing but praise & appreciation from outside the administration. (The video being commented on may be a few years old, can't imagine anything has changed.)

Incredibly misleading headline, shame on the Ottawa Citizen.

The GoC isn't the nerve centre for managing wildfires. It operates to enable federal coordination to emergencies, not wildfires.

They function to coordinate information across federal departments and agencies and when a request for assistance is received the GOC will coordinate across departments and the provinces.

Wildfires are managed predominantly by local jurisdictions of the provinces and territories, and Parks Canada within parks.
