Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Also need to ensure our requirements are address in the standard of infrastructure. Not that we do a good job of it now anyway, but the airport closest to a major CA base should be able to support the new Husky at max troop & cargo carrying weight to enable force projection.

A few minutes on Google suggest that Jean Lesage International can be relatively easily lengthen their main runway.

For Gagetown, it looks like Saint John airport might be the preferred option (for easier expansion of the main runway). Despite a longer runway, Fredericton seems more constrained in ability to lengthen their runway.

Oh that's cute. Never underestimate the city-dwelling liberals to fight change to save NIMBYism at all costs. Look at the Kingston airport: Air Canada said they'd leave if they lengthen the runway. Backyard neighbours called the bluff, but it wasn't a bluff. CMA of 172K and a major military base doesn't have daily flight service.

Kingston airport is a poor example - barring significant filling into Lake Ontario there's probably not the space to lengthen the main runway to 9000 feet.

Not an insurmountable engineering challenge and it doesn't require a runway length to handle a heavy, just a regional jet with reasonable pax/cargo capacity.

If, as noted upstream, we want the A330 Husky MRTT, then runway length is 9000 feet (plus or minus), 50% longer than the current main runway in Kingston

The current runway in Kingston can already physically accommodate the A220, E195-E2, Q400, and C-130.

First stop on the EU trip.

Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Burnham also discussed opportunities for defence industrial cooperation through the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), which Canada joined as an observer in July 2026.

Saw some memes on this that basically go:

51st US state? - thumbs down!
28th EU state? - thumbs up!

I know it's not totally accurate but they're funny and have some merit.

On point for what I'm seeing.

Shopping in the states because food is too expensive makes you a traitor.
Working in the states means you should have your citizenship revoked.
Working in EU is a wonderful opportunity for Canadians.

Yes , yes and then in the words of the loyal opposition Marc Carney is the antichrist ..and Donnie is touched by God .
Or the other the way around. .....

lol, one country is currently whipping us with a stick and the other entity is coaxing us with honey. you choose which country is doing which.

i've never had any issue with the free - legal - movement of talent, i've done it myself in the past. i've got no issue at all with cdn's moving to the us, with americans moving to canada or with canadians moving to the eu or eu citizens moving to canada - all legally of course. its much the same with free trade. i was for it when mulroney put it forward in '88, i'm for it with all other countries we have it with today. obviously trump is no longer for the same thing today.
again its all about having more options, the more the better.

I've advocated for closer ties to the US. Geography, economic and military power house, social and cultural similarities...

That has been met with criticism here by the very people who are now gleeful about closer ties to the EU.

What advantages does closer ties to the EU have over closer ties to the USA?

The room temperature individual who tries to start a USA chant was Siegbert Droese, of the AfD.

Well, to be fair, our track record of who's an 'ally' goes back alot further with the Euros (some oblivious longer than others) than it does with the US.
Canadians were fighting and dying alongside Belgians and French long before we were with Americans. Same with the Danes, Norwegians, Poles and Dutch.

We have plenty of ties to the US already, and those existing ones are being used to hurt us. Why would we want more?

Diversification is the name of the game now.
