Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Holding Carney to the promise made by a previous PM doesn't make sense either
It does if you believe in hilding politicians accountable for their actions (i.e votes in Parliament) and were not run by a dictatorship. The Liberal party breaking their promise and blowing past their "guard railway over 50% isn't just Trudeaus fault. The Liberal party failed Canadians.

during the election, Carney gave us a costed plan that the majority of canadians voted for. Comparing him to the old plan doesn't hold much weight
Majority of Canadians voted for Trudeau for 10 yeas too.

its not that they weren't they turned the fall economic update into a full budget, so there was always going to be a budget of sorts.
So Carney didn't plan for a "budget" and the changed his mind.

someone with his CV isn't going to rush things because at the end of the day he doesn't want his ministers to rush things, he wants it done right, not quick
Someone with his CV knows when he can use his CV to tell people to STFU.
"Trust me"

Did the Liberals not have any economists on their payroll for the last 10 years?

Maybe the CPC should have made it about the Liberals instead of Trudeau, Trudeau, Trudeau.

No they did not. We’ve been through this.

Or he actually understands the actual value of the budget vs main estimates etc

Harper was an economist and took 9 months to table a budget in 2006 after he was elected I believe.

Estimates only cover planned spending, not revenues, deficits, or economic assumptions.

Estimates don’t explain why money is being spent or the policy goals behind, they just show numbers.

The budget is a public-facing document that:
1. provides narrative explanations and justifications;
2. helps voters understand government choices; and
3. increases accountability.

Estimates are technical and hard to interpret without context, limiting public understanding.

A well thought-out spring budget would:
1. reassure credit rating agencies;
2. signal stability to investors and businesses; and
3. reduce uncertainty about tax or fiscal changes.

Delaying the budget may lead to speculation and reduce confidence in government planning.

And according to the internets most G7 countries release their budgets in the first quarter.

Well there goes, in my opinion, any chance of the LPC throwing the NDP a bone in thanks for the last few years of support.

Interim NDP leader says party will vote against throne speech

Could be the NDP has learned the lesson that just playing LPC Lite doesn't work in their favour.

If the previous NDP leader had learned that lesson last fall the NDP could be Opposition, and the LPC could be the ones who lost party status.

The LPC said it wouldn’t look at giving them party status so could also be sour grapes.

Bloc has not decided yet how it will vote. Puts the CPC in an awkward spot as well if it ends up having to prop up the gvt.
kinda already in an awkward spot to vote down a throne speech after making a bunch of amendments to it

On a side note it looks like it was 2 months 26 days.

He was elected February 6th 2006 and tabled the budget May 2nd 2006.

Not bad.

Internet says:
In fiscal year 2006-07, Canada's federal government experienced a surplus of $13.8 billion. The following fiscal year, 2007-08, saw a surplus of $9.6 billion.

Internet says:
So three months. I stand corrected. Passed in Sept of that same year. So that would have been my miscalculation based on when it passed.

So more than three months is not acceptable then? Because it sounds like people want it in three weeks.
