I kind of agree with your view point. The Liberals needed him badly to save their party...but are not willing to pay the true price of having a no nonsense PM in charge.

The LPC are very happy that they are where they are. They were facing a wipeout.

But if Carney is yelling at MPs and instituting a top down kind of approach when MPs are used to the bottom up approach Trudeau put in place, it wont take long for the knives to come out if Carney isn't in as secure a position.

Carney will face a caucus revolt the second the LPC dip below the CPC in the polls.

I'm not going to say which approach is more effective, what I will say is Carney will rub a lot of MPs the wrong way in contrast to Trudeau who held his caucus together until the very end.

He held his caucus together because his bloody standards and expectations were so incredibly low.

Possible - but if so it will be the lowly incompetent jealous ones left behind who band together because they don’t have the intelligence or the backbone to move on their own.

Trudeau lasted the last 6 because he had the NDP in bed with him and all of them were addicted to power. When you have no ethical standard to live by it is easy to chose "what's in it for me" instead of following Kennedy's famous line. 'Ask not what your country can do for you but rather what can I do for my country' or words to that effect.

If the LPC wants to return to the ways of the next Trudeau-ite, they will have no one to blame when PPnor his successor form the next government. PP could only be so fortunate…hopefully he has a sequel plan when Carney moves in by whatever methodology he chooses when his time comes.

Carney seems to be a fairly non-nonsense PM so far.

I just happen to violently disagree with where he thinks this is all going. The end state for Canada once Carney leaves I don't think will be all that different from when Justin was in charge


But who knows. He certainly seems to have momentum behind things that we didn't before, so I'm trying to stay upbeat

I’m with Gerson on this: this makes me like him more, taking the Trudeau retreads to the the woodshed.

I disagree that Trudeau was “collaborative” or “bottom up”. There is plenty of reporting that everything came out of the PMO, cabinet and caucus were given their marching orders from the PMO, Telford and Butts were ruthless gatekeepers and scolded anyone who dared to have and independent thought. They did, however, seem to tolerate incompetence, sloth and nonperformance in cabinet, because nothing was expected of them.

Ii think May would prefer a Dodge Viper.

Mark Carney is the best damn conservative to ever lead the Liberals. I think when he was entering politics, he turned down the wrong hallway and accidently took over the Liberals when he really should be in charge of the Conservatives.

Seriously though, the LPC backbenchers had better decide and real fast, they are in or they are out. The Trudeau brand is gone, period. As Brian Liley recently pointed out, its not good to be high in the polls and have "hidden" MPs in your party backstabbing you, that normally happens when your low in the polls.

I suspect that there are a number of MP’s under Carney who were Cabinet Ministers under Trudeau who are pissed that they are on the outside now - Erskine was a perfect example, I suspect my MP, K Gould is another. Heck she was 1 of the 3 leadership candidates and he still has passed her over for the last 15 months to be a Minister…..to me, that says a lot about her capabilities….

I’m not saying they’re on his stopwatch, but if I were were a Blue Grit PM for a day…

He’s probably content with enough controls on them that they don’t don too muchuch damage, but my point was that they are very much past of Trudeau’s legacy…such as it is.

Yeah, cabinets are never about the best people.

Cabibets are about people who are good enough while juggling regional and gender representation.

He needs strong voices in Quebec, especially since his french is basic at best. He already lost SG, he cannot afford to lose Joly or Champagne, at least not until some other Quebec liberals rise to similar levels of prominence.

And thats before the PQ potentially wins this fall. Going into a referendum situation with no name rookie Quebec cabinet ministers at best, those two replaced by others from the ROC at worse is just handing the floor to PSPP.

I agree about Joly. A waste of rations. Worst minister ever.

I’m not sure about Frankie Bubbles. Everything I’ve heard is that he was one of the few half-competent Trudeau ministers and is more blue than red. I could stand to be corrected though.

I think I’ve is bluer than red. I can’t see Carney giving anyone red the FM position.
