Halifax Accommodations and Things To Do Thread [merged]

As far as donairs are concerned Robert's Donairs in Dartmouth are the best in town all though Venus is pretty good too.  Have fun on BSQ and I might run into you as I am headed there on Jan 6th for my CSEC?COW course at CFNOS subs as well.

    Submarine Trades

I am not completely certain but I believe NavComs still need to be QL5 qualified before they come to subs.  As to what the boats are doing WINDSOR is currently the only boat on the east coast right now and she is getting ready for her camber dive and trial right now.  VICTORIA just got back from...

    Submarine Trades

It could slow you down a little bit, since you would have to do a BSQ course and and sail to finish off your bsq ojt along with an AMOC qualification.  However VICTORIA has had a few OS Mar Engs onboard during this RIMPAC deployment and all of them seem to have enjoyed it.  As for the travel...

    Honours & Awards (merged)

You may find that there are quite a few sailors that have the CPSM with out a corresponding UN/NATO medal for service off the coast of Haiti in 93 and 94 for OP Fwd Action.  Most of the ships tours on station were too short to qualify any medal.

    HMCS Charlottetown taking greenies

The guardrails are folded down so that the gun will not shoot them at max depression. To fold them down is fairly easy all that happens is a pin is removed from the base and they fold down. As to your other question there is a rubber muzzle cove that goes over the end of the flash suppressor an...

    Cooks & Submarine Service

The jr cook billet on VICTORIA is currently filled by a LS and I have seen many LS over the last few years on boats so the possibility is good that you could go but be prepared to learn a lot of stuff outside of the cook world since everyone has to qualify boats first.

    Weapons Engineering Technician

The breakdown for the new trades on subs is the following, 3x Fire Control, 3x Sonar and 2x Radio.  The fire control guys will have the torpedo tubes, Weapons System Data Bus , and the Fire Control Consols.  Sonar will have all the various sonars along with the Periscopes, and Comms will have...

    Submarine Trades

As it stand right now all NETs need to be QL5 qualified before they can come to submarines.  They do not have to do a surface equipment package after the 5s academics they will go directly to BSQ and subs trades training.  There is talk of doing the LS rank qual on subs after the trade changes...

    Ask The CSE Chief

From what I have gotten from the various briefings, you will most likely go to CFNES in Halifax to take any particular courses you SEP program didn't cover then you will take WEng Tech equipment training for the Halifax Class as they are the only class that will do the OJT packages.  After that...

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

It might seem expensive but it replaces pretty much all the insides of the torpedo (sensors, guidance fuel tanks signal processing) giving use pretty much a whole new torpedo with a massive jump in capabilities.

    Stressful Situations for Naval Officers

I imagine the SYO on Kootenay during our Haitian Vacation back in 94 had a stressfull day when he had to inform the crew that we had no Canadian Beer left and had to make due with American Beer.

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

As far as we have been told she will stay and east coast asset/crew.  Although I've been lead to believe she will conduct her TRP and weapons cert on the west coast so for part of her reactivation and running she may have a partial west coast crew.

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

Which part is new the one about the maintenance contract or 3 subs on the west coast?  VISSC has been around for a while now and Corner Brook will be the next boat into VISSC at Victoria shipyards therefore with VICTORIA and CHICOUTIMI already out here that will make 3 boats on the west coast.

Even with the delays it is makes you wonder why the pretty shiny things seem to make it out fairly quickly yet the operational clothing promised by the NICE program still hasn't come out yet.  Seems like some mixed priorities.

The latest installment in the eternal USN SSN vs. SSK debate

Most boats have their bow array on the top half of the forward dome and the torpedo tubes on the bottom.  This includes the USN SSNs.  The Victoria class is one of the only ones to be reversed.
