Indeed, after all, Carney was Harper’s man, no?
Indeed, after all, Carney was Harper’s man, no?
I thought some of the Harper government's anti-research actions were foolish. None of that excuses equally foolish attempts to "decolonize" or otherwise infantilize mathematics and science, or poorly considered intrusions into social and political advocacy by scientists whose conclusions regarding "what government should do" are inevitably based on the one thing they really know well. The Harper Conservatives destroyed alot of scientific records under the guise of cost savings, as well as other essentially anti-science actions, according to people I know close to the issue.
I'm assuming there's a lingering suspicion in the science community that the Conservatives have a 'Bible Belt fervor' for creationism etc that is essentially anti-scientific.
Just like David 'nothing to see here' Johnston.Indeed, after all, Carney was Harper’s man, no?
Yeah I thought he was a good one. Still a better gg than mostJust like David 'nothing to see here' Johnston.
Ridiculous.Policy wise the CPC basically line for line matches up with the American Democrats. Are there fringe elements in both parties which don’t line up? Yes. But that doesn’t mean their main platforms don’t line up.
No. The Democrats are working for unlimited abortion; the CPC is going along with the situation imposed by others. This is similar to what happened with SSM: the CPC did not fight for it but went along; the progressive parties fought for it. It is risible to claim that acquiescence and advocacy are equivalent.Abortion? The Democrats line up with the CPC.
No. The Democrats are in line with the LPC and NDP in Canada - gradual erosion until there is really nothing left.Gun control? Again both would line up pretty consistently (if anything the Democrats would love to have the CPC stance).
No. The Democrats have been blowing out their gaffs with irresponsible public spending on a level not even the LPC in Canada has dared to attempt. The LPC and CPC are both well to the right of Democrats on this one - and it's a critical factor, maybe the most critical one since without sound fiscal and economic policy eventually nothing else really matters.Economic? Very similar.
"Global outlook" amounts to hand-waving and cloud-shaped balloons on a chalk board.Global outlook? Very similar.
Democrats have been consistently trying to cut military spending in the US for decades and do swords-into-ploughshares to prop up social security and Medicaid. The CPC and its predecessors can be at most accused of allowing stagnation.Militarily? The Democrats are much more serious about that than the CPC is.
Add: immigration, tough-or-not-tough on crime, energy (Democrats: anti-coal, anti-fracking, anti-pipeline), environment, individual vs collective rights and responsibilities. What part do you think doesn’t line up fairly consistently?
I’d say it’s more (or more than 60-70% or so) the “how” than the “what” that critics of PP point to as being GOP’ish.See, this is why Canadians equate the CPC with Trump and the GOP. They here/see people like you spewing the same Republican vitriol as this, see that you are a CPC supporter, and say "are these the kind of people we want running our Country?".
This is almost treasonous.Because it was 2015!

Meanwhile, sounds like PP can't get any clearer than this on abortion (The Canadian Press via YT):
Let's see if this closes THAT narrative file from the other side. I suspect no, but dare to dream, right?
Money laundering in real estate isn't just a BC issue? colour me shocked, speculation and money laundering we need to fight within housing, it drives prices higher.Another Chinese problem Canada has to tackle to help reduce housing costs to Canadians.

Last time I expressed my opinion of Brian Lilley my post got removed... So I will just say that I am not a fan.
I wouldn’t say the exact definitions apply to any political party. The Canadian Liberals for example are not very liberal by definition.

Also I wouldn’t really consider the Democrats particularly progressive. Their ‘progressive’ policies are for the most part standard in Canada and Europe.
doesn't matter what we think in my mind my only question is "how many people follow his column"Last time I expressed my opinion of Brian Lilley my post got removed... So I will just say that I am not a fan.
