I wrote about ordinary people - not ICE members decked out in their gear - being assaulted, not yelled at. It shouldn't be hard to fathom the difference. It's mob violence; it's not even vigilantism - vigilantes at least usually go after people caught red-handed doing whatever crime offends the vigilantes.

Worth noting he actually had two black gentleman step in and escort him safely out of the area to prevent this being used as a point of escalation by ICE, and all things consdiered he didn't get much more than yelled and and shoved a round a bit. Someone did claim his chest rig as a trophy though.

Didn't stop the grifter from crying about non existant injuries and setting up a go fund me for medical bills though.

So physically assaulting and stealing from people is ok, so long as they don't agree with your politics?

The guy is a raging idiot, but getting swarmed and assaulted by people isn't really an acceptable response to his douchbaggery. It just adds more escalation to a situation that needs a lot less escalation.

100% agree with the bolded part.

My issue is, people seem to revel in "punching Nazis", but are appalled when it goes the other way. Normalizing violent responses to people being assholes swings both ways, and the MAGA crazies aren't the only or even necessarily the worst crazies.

In the context of what he was trying to provoke it was remarkably restrained, especially someone wandering around doing Nazi salutes. I've been pushed about more getting on and off public transit then what he got FFS. I am okay though with normalizing punching out actual Nazis though, but it's also extremely easy for that to escalate very quickly, or someone to fall down awkwardly and get killed by hitting their head, so they are better people than I am.

If someone is yelling in your face and saying hateful things punching them is always assault, but an understandable human response. But he didn't even get punched in the face, so lets not pretend people didn't show huge restraint, when a reasonable expectation for going into a crowd of angry people to provoke them like that is getting knocked down and kicked about by a mob.

Especially given the context of ICE detaining and beating on random people on the street, going door to door and all the other insane things they are doing though, this is really does hugely differentiate the two sides. The fact that they are doing it masked seems to show they know they are in the wrong, but are empowered to do it anyway by a small minority of lunatics warping all safeguards and balances, so if it doesn't get checked by the system won't be surprised if it severely escalates.
