That is actually genius reference to how RN cooks in the age of sail were entitled to the skim the fat off the vats of cooking salt pork and save it in barrels for sale at the end of the voyage. The fat was called “slush”. It was their “slush fund”.

The Simpsons never cease to amaze.

NDA 39(2) for the win!

Discontinued in the late 90’s.
No, you're thinking of the BDA, the double action version developed for the XM9 trials. The Hi Power Mark III was produced until 2018.
All of FN Herstal’s BHP stuff is in boxes in the old factory they were built. (Also beside the FAL tooling).

FN America tried to bring it back for the North American market - but Browning owns the rights (the weird FN Group dynamic) and they only seem to care about shotguns these days.
They redesigned the Hi Power in 2022, made in Columbia, South Carolina, dubbed the FN High Power.

I worked at FN for 18 months - in 2015-16, I can guarantee you that the issues of the BHP was a major discussion point every time I traveled to Herstal and the Browning BD folks where uninterested in bringing it back -- there where guns being assembled in Portugal from older parts, (most said made in Belgium assembled in Portugal. When it came to talking about reintroducing the BHP Herstal just kept shrugging there shoulders, and looking at Browning.

There were a number of FN Herstal BHP's in FN America vaults that had the safety modified to drop the hammer when applied, and recock the hammer when removed. It was a little alarming to use for a regular BHP guy.

Interesting, I know that the Pistol Design team was working on a "Metal Frame Pistol" a la BHP, but Browning had been uninterested in allowed FN America to use the BHP nomenclature -- glad they managed to turn it around.

I'm going to need to get a buddy at FN to hook me up for one.

I had looked at one of those before the Liberal grown-ups decided I couldn't be trusted with any more handguns. It didn't have great reviews at the time. The price was pretty up there for a SA hammer fired pistol similar to one I already owned so I didn't give it a really serious consideration.

It does look quite nice in SS.

I’d like to see a BDA in real life…

I thought the tan was nicer.

Underwhelming - severely. I signed one out - shot it and signed it back in...
The only worse one was the BDM, where the trigger was insufferable, and I checked out the 25 that were in the vault - and the triggers were uniformly awful, never took it to the range.

Now the "other BDA" the .380 that Beretta did for Browning, it was a nice little gun if you like .380. I had one in Canada for a while, I sold it for a Glock 23.

Man, I need a Time Machine to go back and get a VP9 (or P30)…

I was contemplating getting an HK USP for a while before the ban, but never got around to it. Mostly I couldn't decide between 9 and 45.

A brick, a really nice shooting reliable brick, but a brick - the P30 and HK45 added a much needed ergonomic aspect to it.

Time machine goals might be a while off still...

But you're always welcome to move here to Alberta! No tangible gun ban here.

(Like as a Plan B, if time machine doesn't work out...)
