Cadpat Arid Regions

My Questions involve the Cadpat Arid uniforms/equipment. Will everybody get the BDU‘s, will only people who are deployed to desert regions get them. Will they have tactical vests and flak vests in the pattern or will they just stay green like alot of the US military?

I think that they should have approx. 2000 complete arid region Cadpat uniforms, with the BDU, flak vests, tactical vests and anything else that can be in the pattern, for soldiers going to an actual war (not peacekeeping) in a desert. The US Military has most of its soldiers in Iraq in desert uniform with green vests. The US Military, has over 100,000 people on the ground in Iraq and Im guessing they don‘t have enough tan vests for all.

CF wouldn‘t be sending that many people to any future operations in desert areas, so we should have atleast enough to fully equip our guys.

What do you guys think?

It depends on a lot of things I think. If you are going overseas to a tactical desert situation I think they are still issuing green cadpat. Thats what an article in the paper said anyways (something about wanting to stand out from the other troops??)
I know that for the most part they are not issuing too many cadpats at all to reservists in general right now, or at least there are some restrictions on it, there are of course loopholes around this but for the most part they are not.
Some people just get lucky though and get issued entire cadpat kits, for whatever reason, be it luck or perhaps they just lied about how qualified they are!

The Cadpat Arid Region will only be issued based on operational requirements. So no, Pte. Bloggins the weekend warrior will not be seeing them.

And IIRC the origional order was for 2000 sets of arid combats, and when those are issued out to troops, another 2000 will be made.

Just as a side note, the temperate cadpat in Afghanistan is WAY better at night than the US dessert BDUs.

Is the temperate cadpat always better at night then tan BDUs or just in a desert area? With or without night vision goggles?

I realized that a lot of personnel in the Communication Reserve in BC are issued CADPAT.

There ya go Baker. http://www.hyperstealth.com/CADPAT-MARPAT.htm

Well, think about it this way. Desert BDUs are brightly coloured, right? So they reflect more light. Now the CADPAT are darker in colour, right? so, they reflect less light....

That is the "scientific" reason why Temperate CADPAT works better at night than brightly coloured desert BDUs.

Then when you talk to people who have seen both the temperate CADPAT vs desert cam at the same time on operation, they say that the darker CADPAT stands out much less than dessert BDUs at night.

Furthermore, you sound (type?) rather defensive.. I‘m not attacking Americans.. Not everyone on this board is an anti-US flag-burning hippie.

Alrighty, I didn‘t mean US military‘s BCU‘s specifically, that was more of an example. My statement is based on the simple facts I posted above, plus the observations of people who have seen the temperate CADPATs in comparison to the US‘s dessert uniforms at night in Afghanistan. No, it‘s not in a book, and I don‘t have any reports specifying any measurments. So based on that, you can throw my comment out the window if you wish.

Here are the people with all the answers and data to this question. As well the Marine Corp have adopted this system through the the miltary exchange program, so there is a string you can pull as well on your side of the border.

Korus,
Unless you‘ve been there, done that comparing the "dessert" CADPAT w/ the US BDU‘s, shut the f*** up.

S_Baker, I‘ll admit I shot my mouth off there without enough empirical evidence to back it up. If I came across hostile, I appologize, it was not my intent.

Next time I won‘t get caught with my pants down ;)
