Crystal Arrow is an annual Latvian mechanized brigade exercise. Up until the establishment of the MN Bde it served as the creval but not anymore. eFP troops may be on it but usually in a supporting / enemy force role.

Canada broke ground on two major military construction projects in Latvia on May 19, laying foundation stones for a rotary-wing helicopter facility at Lielvārde Air Base and accommodation buildings at both Lielvārde and Riga in a combined investment of €64 million, or approximately $70 million.

The larger of the two new projects, valued at €33 million ($36 million), will build a dedicated rotary-wing apron and flight line at Lielvārde, a military airbase located roughly 60 kilometers southeast of Riga. The facility will include hangar space, maintenance infrastructure, and flight line office facilities designed to support Canada’s Tactical Air Detachment in Latvia.

The operational footprint is specific: the new apron will accommodate up to six CH-146 Griffon utility helicopters and four CH-147 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters simultaneously, while also providing ground support for loading and unloading of larger aircraft including the CC-177 Globemaster, Canada’s strategic transport jet. That combination of rotary and fixed-wing support infrastructure gives the Canadian force a meaningful increase in its ability to move troops, equipment, and supplies around the battlespace without depending on host-nation facilities.

The second project, at €30 million ($33 million), addresses the less glamorous but equally critical problem of where to put troops. Two new accommodation buildings will be constructed at Lielvārde, each designed to house 152 soldiers under standard conditions with the capacity to expand to 304 if the operational situation requires it. A third residential building in Riga is also under construction as part of the same investment tranche. Together these projects give the Canadian-led NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia a significantly larger permanent housing capacity, reducing the reliance on temporary facilities that constrain how long and how effectively a deployed force can sustain operations.

Canada-led brigade in Latvia moves beyond tripwire role, commander says​

RIGA, Latvia — The Canada-led NATO brigade in Latvia has moved beyond its original “tripwire” deterrence posture and is now focused on mounting a credible defense of the Baltic country bordering Russia, according to its commander, Col. Kris Reeves.

Reeves said the shift towards what he described as “tactical credibility” has meant establishing forward locations and stationing troops near Latvia’s eastern border, in the terrain where they would actually fight in the event of a conflict, the Canadian commander told Defense News.

If I'm reading this right (and, as always, I stand to be corrected), Canada's going to take part in the current next-level-up HQ by "joining Denmark and Latvia as the third Framework Nation for Multinational Division North" (info-machine statement also attached).

Since the formation seems to have been operational since 2023, including Canada as a nation "represented," does this mean a few more Canadian boss/staff types at the Div HQ?

The rumour on the street is that TFL positions will get rolled into MND-N and Comd TFL will double hat as the SNR (senior national representative) as a BGen not a Col. This would be a welcome change because TFL as constructed is essentially a giant roadblock to MNB-LVA believing it still controlled the entity as a carryover from eFP-BG.

Canada likes the glory of filling leadership positions, but a framework nation needs to be more than leadership ... framework includes support. If there are three countries sharing the role of framework nation, those three countries should be furnishing the majority of the division level support (and corps/theatre level support in the absence of a higher level command providing that).

I would wonder also if there is an expectation that the CA is going to step up to have a pure CA Bde, and Div HQ and Support requirements.
Then what the CANCON Corps/Theatre Support requirements would be, or if those could be rolled up into a more robust Divisional set?
