CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

I am not arguing that they can hit back. Making a point that there is a different strategy that can be employed. Which one is best depends on who you ask.
Understood. I was pointing that they largely couldn't 'hit back' because how could they really? Protest against tariffs brought against them because of the amount of Fentanyl coming into the US from Mexico? It's a fact, not lie as it is in our case.

Mexico has very little connectivity with Europe and less in the Pacific than Canada, so arguably they are more beholden to the U.S. even than Canada. One can argue whether Mexico has a larger criminality issue than Canada, but Canada doesn’t yet have traveling CIA teams ‘taking care of business’ in Canada against Chinese triads…yet l.

I mean, they could, but the planned churchill falls deal has most of that expanded capacity earmarked for domestic use.

Thus it would be a very unsatisfying carrot

"There's a guaranteed transmission access of 985 megawatts through Quebec. This means Newfoundland and Labrador can sell up to that amount of Churchill River electricity by sending it through Quebec, using Hydro-Quebec’s transmission network, and on to other markets.

For example, if Massachusetts or New York needed power, Newfoundland and Labrador could sell it."

Sure, 985 MW. Not a huge carrot.

"With demand for electricity rising rapidly, we have signed an agreement that enables us to secure Québec’s energy future at a competitive cost. We’ll have access to a significant supply of reliable and affordable energy for Québec. This agreement is based on a renewed partnership with NL Hydro, rooted in a shared vision of long-term energy development that maximizes value creation for both provinces. This collaboration paves the way for the largest renewable energy project in North America and will contribute to Québec’s prosperity for generations to come"

Claudine Bouchard
President and CEO of Hydro-Quebec

"Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette highlighted the long-term economic and security benefits for her province during the news conference.

"Because it brings to Quebec thousands of new megawatts and we need those megawatts for residents, for businesses, for every region in Quebec," said Christine Fréchette, Premier of Quebec."

A poor carrot.

Yeah, it's only the Indian government assassinating on Canadian soil. The US government just does psychiatric mind destruction experiments in Canada through McGill university.

Speaking for myself, I would be happy if supply management went down the drain. But I can see how that would look like a huge sell-out to most people.

Only way I see that going over well is if our negotiation team somehow talks the US into dropping their dairy subsidies. In which case we'll have to hold a trial for witchcraft after the grand parade upon their return.

And prepare to get a passport to enter Quebec.

‘Allegedly’ assassinating the man who ‘allegedly’ was involved in the Air India bombing.
