Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

I prefer the AML solution that is in the works in the US.
The CAML-M variant takes a HIMARS truck, removes the crew, lengthens the launch bed and adds a second pod. Two pods and C130 transportable.

Having said that, I do wonder at what "long" means, and how the Canadian Army sees using that range.
Clearly there is a mismatch between the tactical needs of an expeditionary division and a 1500 km missile.
Conversely those 1500 km missiles might buy us more international friends because they can secure some fairly large countries.
Much the same way a naval force can dominate a large chunk of sea due to the weapons in its VLS cells.

Looking at the US INDOPACOM situation both the Army and the Marines have decided to exploit their long range artillery and de-emphasize the other ground forces.
Their force structure seems to be shaking out as 4 divisions with 2 small light or abn brigades and a long range arty brigade or multi domain task force. Similar, I think, to the Marine Littoral Regiments in concept but on a larger scale.
The ground force is either a security force to protect the guns or else it is another long range projectile.

The Pacific Theatre is just different, as the Australians are discovering with their own HIMARS. While 500km is impressive in the NATO context (it lets you shoot from Riga into Minsk or Pskov) —distances in the Pacific are measured in thousands, not hundreds of kilometres. Hence why things like the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon/Dark Eagle are so important. The US is also bringing back ground launched Tomahawk, made famous in the Cold War.
With Canada getting into the Tomahawk game anyway with the River-class, ground launched Tomahawk might be a natural fit for Canada — if we’re serious about the Pacific.

There is a whole lot more than a handful of ground-launched Tomahawk launchers required for the CA to be serious about the operations in the Pacific.

Absolutely agree. And the SM-6 as an all singing all dancing round.
It is widely seen as the stable mate for the Tomahawk with comparable Surface to Surface ranges, precision, anti-ship capable, anti-air and anti-ballistic missile.
And it can be carried by army trucks, navy ships and air force aircraft.
It makes a better fit for us than Patriot. Especially if paired with NASAMS for AIM-9s, AIM-7s, AIM-120s and ESSMs in the MRAD sphere. All of those a tri-service rounds.

Parking a Tomahawk/SM6 Battery in Southern Sweden would make a significant strategic statement. Just as would similar batteries in Comox, Greenwood and Resolute.

You don't buy weapons with a significant cyber component from someone who has recently threatened you. There may not be a bespoke "kill switch" but the country with proprietary access to the hardware and software is the country who knows the known vulnerabilities.
