In any business transformation project there is a tipping point after which you can no longer put the genie back in the bottle. For better or for worse, immigration is a business transformation project. Think back to the turn of the 19th to 20th century. I expect that the then primary white cultures, English Scots and French were not pleased with the masses of Germans, Ukrainians, Italians, Poles and Russians entering by the boatload. Hell, in the 1960s we were still making disparaging jokes about Italians and Poles in Toronto.
One of Trump's many diatribes was aimed at immigrants from the middle east. (Muslims) and unfortunately his language caused people to fail to recognize a significant truth in binging in large numbers of Islamics. Islam is an all-inclusive faith. It controls life-style, government, personal relationships and relationships with those of other faiths. From the Mullahs' viewpoint, Muslim immigrants represent the initial stages of an invasion force. They seek to take over civic control of each area to which they move. Examples are Sweden, France, Canada, Belgium and England. In other words, just about everywhere that they have achieved a significant percentage of the population. As Europe's economies got better, less and less of the "masses" from there decreased, Canada had to look to other parts of the world. Ignoring the altruistic desires by some political parties for a multicultural society, it was the need to grow the population and the readily available desirable classes of immigrants from the third world that fulfilled that need.
The big difference that came with that is that while most of the European immigrants, like me, that arrived mostly wanted to integrate fully into the existing Canadian society. Being European made that easier (but not entirely easy - see Poles and Italians above). The newer crop that has come in over the last half century or so are more inclined to keep their cultural distinctions alive. The reasons for that are varied but religion, visible distinctions and deeply engrained cultural backgrounds have a lot to do with that.
With the Lord's Day Act they through out the baby with the water. From a social viewpoint families benefited from having a mandatory day off. You can argue, if you wish, that we still do but getting Tuesday off doesn't do your family life one bit of good. Many European countries maintain half Saturdays plus Sundays off and there is no such thing as a Lord's Day Act to confuse them.One needs to recall that Christianity was pretty much the same. The European expansionism and colonization movement from the 15-1600s on was one where missionaries led or, where not leading, were joined at the hip to those who were. Much of the race involved competitions between Protestant and Catholic nations to gather as many of the "savages" to their enlightened folds as possible. This always causes turmoil for those "savages."
Therein lies the problem with freedom of religion when it is not also interpreted as freedom "from" religion. The time to make constitutional changes that allows individuals a choice in religion but also ensures freedom from its effects is now. Just think of Sunday closing laws which were demonstrably based in Christian dogma as enunciated in the 1907 "Lord's Day Act." These were in vogue until well into the middle of the last century until finally ruled unconstitutional by the SCC as late as 2009.
The tyranny of the majority is only a problem when one is no longer part of the majority.
how about this. Islam wants to control you. The solution is simple but not acceptable to most of western society: don't let them in.

Canada and America have always had to deal with not being a homogenous society and have had to deal with some radical elements within the immigrant group - think of support for the IRA; or communists fighting in Spain; or the FLQ; even the American revolution and Civil war have a cultural aspect to them.
I certainly have no answer as to how to stop violence as I think there will always be components of a "free and democratic society" who will turn to violence when their particular message is not accepted by the general public. One can absorb those acts and deal with them within the existing policing system. I'm actually more worried about how easy it is to manipulate the social media to influence large masses of all stripes into accepting false narratives. Once the masses are won over, critical analysis of the second and third order effects of a course of action is drowned out. While many focus on immigrants as a problem, the problem goes well beyond that into differences as to how the political structure of a country should work in order to benefit a given faction. This Transends mere cultural backgrounds. Currently, the flames of those differences are being fanned from inside and outside the country and will lead to more explosive violent acts then issues relating to some distant land.
Agreed, and nationally, come out 4 square in support of Canada as it is now, warts and all. We need an Ottawa that promotes us not condemns us and apologizes for every perceived historical error. Schools need history and social lessons that project reality; not a version of wokeness. Then maybe Canadians will realize what we have and start fighting back.
