Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

So more than three months is not acceptable then? Because it sounds like people want it in three weeks.

Performance punishment. When Liberal supporters put Carney on a pedestal as one of the smartest and greatest economists on the planet people are going to want results. He should be able to rhyme off those numbers rain man style.

Of course there's people who are going to obnoxiously try and blow everything they can out of proportion with Carney (anything that can be seen as a misstep), the same way others do with Poilievre Smith et el.
TDS, PDS, CDS, SDS.

What probably caused this to be bigger than it should have been was that Caney originally, stupidly IMO, said the Liberals weren't even going to do a budget this year. That instantly brought lots of attention and opportunity for attack. Had he planned a fall budget from the start this probably wouldn't have been brought up this much.

Estimates only cover planned spending, not revenues, deficits, or economic assumptions.

Estimates don’t explain why money is being spent or the policy goals behind, they just show numbers.

The budget is a public-facing document that:
1. provides narrative explanations and justifications;
2. helps voters understand government choices; and
3. increases accountability.

Estimates are technical and hard to interpret without context, limiting public understanding.

A well thought-out spring budget would:
1. reassure credit rating agencies;
2. signal stability to investors and businesses; and
3. reduce uncertainty about tax or fiscal changes.

Delaying the budget may lead to speculation and reduce confidence in government planning.

And according to the internets most G7 countries release their budgets in the first quarter.
Conversely, as others have said, estimates tend to come out to keep government money flowing - without them, they can't really "spend" money - while the team works on the budget, outlining their plans for the future. Yeah, some may not like this way of doing things, but many also haven't complained in the past when it was done this way under other team jerseys, so let's see what happens.

That's fair. Do Canadians really care what money goes where as long as it's "their" party in power? I don't think so.

100% that most don't.

That said, people on all sides are happy to cherry pick things like, "why does program A only gets $B when program C gets $D?" Or, "why the flying fuck does Ottawa spend $x on program y when we don't even need it because it's just robbery/socialist/communist/fascist/(pick your -ism)?!?!?"

Yeah!! 👊💥

In fiscal year 2006-07, Canada's federal government experienced a surplus of $13.8 billion. The following fiscal year, 2007-08, saw a surplus of $9.6 billion.

Honest statement here guys...

For a very brief moment I had to stop to remember what a surplus was again.

Hadn't seen that word in a looonnnggggg time!

Im doubting the CPC would try for an election when their leaders popularity is imploding
Right now I wouldn’t want to be leading the government. The economy is about to implode and as a general rule who ever is in power gets blamed, whether it is their fault or not. Better to have the Liberals as the fall guys at the moment than be the fall guy.

Agreed, I said elsewhere that Carney picked a hell of time to be PM.

Just from a political standpoint it’s almost a good thing for the CPC they lost the election. If they had won a minority they wouldn’t have been able to do much anyways and would have the cross of a failing economy to carry. Without a majority they would take the blame but lack any of the ability needed to effectively do much.

yeah he did. He gets his picture on the wall, the title of Honourable for the rest of his life, head of state paragraph for his resume and carte blanche on a UN sinecure which may be his goal in the first place. The timing is perfect

If the GoC doesn't resolve the question - veto or not - decisively and quickly with the latter answer, there's not much point trying to move ahead with expediting any major projects that will be required to wet beaks across a few or dozens of communities. If GoC is going to retreat like whipped dogs from any controversy, they're of no use. The reason people are talking about new processes is because the old ones are detrimental; the reason the old ones exist is to soothe and enrich particular interests; change will require disruption and some interests will lose power and money. The great sources of wealth in Canada ought to benefit all Canadians. As it is, communities with local windfalls don't share much (if at all) with those which are impoverished.

Carney gov’t tables bill to reduce interprovincial trade barriers, build national projects

And he’s said he’s prepared to keep Parliament sitting into the summer to fast-track the bill, but the Bloc is committing to studying it fully through committee.

PMMC’s not dicking around on his priorities. that’s for sure. This is three major bills in about as many days.
