Part of me likes the innovation funding programs like IDeas, but is also driven nuts by how hard it is to just adopt existing technology with a proven record, when they through money (and resources) at things that are still in developmental technology stage, and most don't ever become commercially feasible.
Even projects that get through these programs are hard to actually adopt so would be interesting to see the success rate on any of these in getting into real use, and how much of it is due to just bureaucratic processes and contracting rules preventing that.
We appear to have our answer about Parliamentary committees. The government leader in the House of Commons is going to introduce a motion to expand nearly all committees by two members for the duration of this parliament, giving the Liberals a majority on all committees as is typically the case for a majority government. This will allow them to avoid removing anyone currently on them. Looks like this is a simple majority motion in the House of Commons, so it should pass without issue.

This was always going to be the result, he wants to move fast and he thinks the opposition is playing games in committees.

Canso is a viable launch site that already has all the connections, approvals, and certifications from both provincial and federal governments. Churchill is another site, however only for suborbital launches unless we're willing to let stages drop over land.
With how fund starved anything space related has been in Canada, are we really getting mad over a construction site? Fund approval doesn't mean everything is finger snapped into a NASA sized spaceport overnight. It's $20M per year over 10 years to develop the site.
85% of that $200M has to be spent on local companies too.

The LPC has pretty much admitted to targeting certain CPC members. Sounds like it to me.

Lets not insult Carneys acumen. Even Trudeau was smart enough to be out of town when his intermediary Butts was coercing JWB about SNC Lavalin.
No doubt Carneys frontmen were positioned to provide Carney plausible deniability if the deals the 'overzealous' members offering crossed any lines and reported publicly.

But as I have been told by you and many others here, this is how our system works.
Sounds to me like “targeted” in the recruitment sense- identify those who might be more amenable to the idea and focus efforts there. Nothing nefarious about that.
Any attempt to coerce an MP to cross who didn’t want to would blow up in their face spectacularly, and would highly likely be criminal.
The leader of the opposition has failed to sell himself to all of his MPs as the best way going forward and some of them threw in with the other guy. Some may want a more favourable personal political outcome, others may simply not want to ride out the end of their Paeliakentaryu career in an opposition with no power.
Crossing can work in any direction, so the good news for CPC is if they convince Canadians that they can present a better alternative, they’re equally free to attract members of other parties, break the majority, and take us to an election. But…
Given that the CPC literally hid two MPs behind a curtain to avoid accidentally voting down the budget and triggering an election, I’ve only got a little bit of sympathy for their complaining about how the current composition of the house was achieved. They and the other parties had the chance to take us to the polls and make a better case and they chose not to.

“Coercion” means to compel someone to involuntarily do something. It implies threat or corrupt leverage that overcomes someone’s own lack of willingness. Negative incentive. “If you don’t cross the floor I’m releasing the photos of you in Tijuana in a gimp suit” is coercion.
Targeted recruiting happens all the time; we could also call it headhunting. Identify people where you have some particular reason to want them and/or to think they may be open to coming over and incentivizing it. “If you join us I want your voice at the table on northern and indigenous policy” or “if you join us I want to draw on your knowledge and credibility in oil and gas to move that portfolio forward”.
Very, very different. As I said coercion would likely border on criminal. Offering someone a job where they’ll be taken seriously and have some influence is not that.

Yup. I’m just going to expect anyone alleging coercion to show their work in order to be taken seriously.
I’m fine with what has happened and I’d be fine with it going the other way too. The freedom to cross the floor is the last, biggest guarantor of an MP’s independence and a check on the balance of any PMO or party leader. I personally like that in principle. I’m also good with PM Carney being given the opportunity to bash on and work to steer our economy back from whatever the hell the last decade+ was.
