Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Crossed to where? Which party aligns would align with him?
Does it matter if his intent was to damage the LPC brand? Even if he were to sit as an independent, I suspect he would still support the LPC against the opposition.

He explained why he was stepping down. I don't think it's going to move the needle too much, not with the population currently being very supportive of various national projects and that includes oil and gas.

Guilbeault says Canada 'backsliding' on climate action as he resigns as MP

Even as an MP and environment minister, plenty of the LPC faithful thought he was nuts, let alone the general population. I admire that he has convictions and is sticking by them I guess, even if I think he's a militant ideologue (with a questionable grasp on the real world) that is unable to understand that you need to compromise to get big things done in a democracy. 60% of 100% is always better than 100% of 0.

Some convictions cost real people real time and money. Some people can afford the friction, and some cannot, and for the latter it makes their lives difficult. Convictions are not necessarily admirable. All sorts of people have convictions. In Guilbeault's case, his convictions were burdening a lot of ordinary people, to not much useful purpose.

I think his convictions were stupid, it was just refreshing to see a politician stand by them. But he's a pretty big outlier, so his leaving is hardly a reflection on anything (and frankly take him quitting as an MP as a sign things are going in the right direction).
