Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

On the politics of it, I'm just disappointed we missed some real economic opportunities.
Because we are stuck in a dystopian world where our neighbor to the south oscillates between investing in clean energy and then coal, back and forth, and the one country to take the green energy economy bull by the horns is freaking China.

Like it or not, the main pool of investment dollars is concentrated in the USA and they cannot for the life of them figure out what is real or not one administration to another.

Here comes another by-election.

Good riddance I say.

It's obviously exaggerated to meet ideological goals, like many things. Otherwise heads of state wouldn't be jet setting across the country for unnecessary events, such as photo ops. We've all seen the flight tracking apps showing loads of jets in the airspace spewing tons of jet exhaust. One of our recent champions of climate, PMJT, polluted more on one weekend surfing trip to Tofino than I will my entire existence. I'll believe human induced climate change is very serious when unnecessary air travel is significantly curtailed.
the science is what it is.

Personal beliefs and or statements by any sort of social or political elites are irrelevant. While it would be nice to see real leadership on that, It would honestly be somewhat surprising

If anything the conservative nature of science established at least since Lyell and Darwin leads to the minimization of claims. The IPCC itself is a consensus project on the state of the science requiring sign off from all participants

If that ever actually happened, I think we both know you'd be deep down the conspiratorial rabbit hole. Come on now.

We do Op Lentus every year now. And there's still people saying it's all a hoax. Oh well.....
You do Op Lentus every year because provincial governments have grown increasingly accustomed to having their pleas for federal assistance (including money) met.
It's always sucked that we got these activists types on the environment side instead of the people who saw it as an economic opportunity.
Sure, if it makes economic sense. If it made economic sense, subsidization and other gimmicks wouldn't be necessary.

Is this the monent that the LPC is about to enter freefall?

CBC will never say it because they are too busy boot licking Carney but the signs are there.

I will remind you once again, Chrystia Freeland stepped down and that's when the writting was on the wall for Trudeau.

Steven Guilbault will leave parliament and then go full scorced earth on the LPC which will tank the LPC in Quebec. The entire left flank of the LPC will flock to the NDP and a few members floor cross to the greens or sit as independents bringing the LPC back to a minority.

My prediction? Carney popularity will plummet fast and he manufactures an election or loses a confidence vote.

Deeds not words.

Depends on whether a plurality of Canadians would be likely to look at that as the best bet to navigate these turbulent times.

Anyone sliding over to NDP will likely not advantage themselves.

I think if we did see defections threaten PM Carney’s majority, that’s where we would see an election called, easily articulated with the need to put the question of government mandate back to the voters to confirm. If polling is remotely to be believed, the LPC have a lot of leeway right now were an election to happen imminently.

It would be a campaign that would line up the various trade and business deals that have been signed, and the significant adjustment in posture on defence and Canada’s place in the world. They would say “here’s what we’ve concretely been doing, and we’re starting to see results. Let’s please be allowed to continue carrying on with this.”

I don’t believe the CPC will be enthusiastic to force an election any time soon even should LPC lose their majority. Poilievre probably rightly fears for his political future should he lose another election. Some massive swing would need to happen for that to not be the result, even if LPC were held to a minority by the NDP picking themselves raggedly back up off the ground.

He explained why he was stepping down. I don't think it's going to move the needle too much, not with the population currently being very supportive of various national projects and that includes oil and gas.

Guilbeault says Canada 'backsliding' on climate action as he resigns as MP

I think, sadly, that she sticks around longer. She needs to ‘redeem’ herself under Carney in order to wipe the stink from the Trudeau years and to better position yourself for whatever comes next.

Sure. Guilbeault was holding the government together…

Yeah. Not sure about putting Guilbault in the same league as Freeland. And does he really have that much sway in Quebec?

The QC prediction assumes he carries a lot of political water there. I hear he doesn’t but we’ll see.

I don’t think one fringe type leaving = the downfall of Team Red at this point.
