Frankly I’m surprised we’re not in outright recession. A lot of our defensive play is strategic/structural with pretty long lead times before we can expect to realize much benefit. Resource projects take time to get off or (or into) the ground.
Strategy continues. Weather the storm best we can, and diversify diversify dirvesify.

From another angle, this data might influence the Bank of Canada not to raise interest rates - (as long as inflation remains tame) - which will not sink the housing market, auto sales, general consumer sediment and will not raise the borrow costs of the Federal Government.
Down in the US the various pundits are preaching a 70+% chance that the US Federal Reserve will raise interest rates another 1/4 in October. This will further sink the US housing market, auto sales, will drive up the value of the USD (which makes US exports that much more expensive) and will add billions upon billions to their borrowing costs.
There is always 2 sides to a coin.

The media (and politicians of every stripe at every level of government) are not attacking the company because they were critical of the goverments policies. They are attcking the US owned foreign company who fired Canadian employees as a direct result of the tariffs that have been established...by the US government.

Applauding tariffs meant to protect the North American steel industry from chinese dumping into Canada which hurts Canadian and American steel. This is one of the main reasons Canada walked out on US trade deal, Canada refuses to align with the US on its position regarding China’s predatory trade practices.

You mean those chinese products slapped with anti dumping duties? Most chinese products are with anti dumping duties based on country of origin. Not entry, so even coming in via canada they would get slapped as chinese products entering the US. There is no such thing as using canada to avoid dumping in in the US. The same duties apply at the border. In fact dumping into canada to ship to the US would hit them twice.
