I mean if the RCN wants to form Marines then fill your boots. I'm not carrying water for the infantry or recce folks. But seriously, there's a certain amount of skill in doing dismounted patrols and fighting if need be. It's a skill set that I don't expect the average sailor to have anymore than the infantry are operators of blue water craft. Each to his own.
I obviously see more to littoral patrol ops than merely cruising the shoreline.
I think the only solution to all this is to just copy the Japanese in WW2 where every service got planes, boats, infantry, and of course aircraft carriers.

If the CCG integrates more with DND, then the need for dedicated boarding may grow a fair bit. Thankfully for the button and bow types, there is historical precedent to work with.
