Replacing the Subs

The Koreans have also ordered Canadian gear for their new provisioning ships
Saw that. They used the same company for their other AOR's previously. IIRC we use that company for our JSS as well. And Asterix. When you're good at what you do Canadian military companies can really compete!

According to Noah, the South Korean government is looking to dispatch a high ranking special envoy to Canada with the goal of "strengthening defense industry cooperation between the two countries." Hanwha Ocean is also opening an office in Canada ahead of pending progress on the CPSP as well. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious between the Koreans and the Germans from this program.

I have heard some rumours that the CPSP is expected to award a contract in 2026. So between 6months and a year from now.

Here's more on that:

Not only are the South Koreans planning on sending a special representative to Canada, they are also having a special delegation visiting Canada this week to discuss defence related issues. Noah also seems to think that the RFP for the CPSP is coming in the next couple of weeks.

It will be a quick RFP I bet, the Koreans are offering more offsets then we could dream of, like dedicated maintenance facilities, munitions etc, heck ive heard they have offered one of their subs as a trainer until our first one is built

I somehow feel Canada will be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in this one.

I'm trying to stay positive and I think SK is our best hope. But but I have this nagging voice that keeps telling me we're going to fuck this up.
You mean that we push to have them
built in Ontario, in Welland?
And then on top of that, after we build the first one, we find out that it’s too big or too wide or too something to fit through the Welland Canal and we now have a KSS operational in Lake Erie?

Is that what you’re thinking?

That's definitely an option lol

On a more serious note, since the SK's are saying that they'll build maintenance facilities on both coasts, what would be an approx. range of warm bodies employed at such a facility?

What would happen to Babcock's facilities and employees on the WC? I know that Babcock has tied up with one of the two SK firms for their pitch to Poland. I've not read anything similar here.

"If it looks, sounds and tastes too good to be true - It is!"

With Chinese influence in SK growing and a pro-China president recently elected SK subs are highly likely to be a Trojan horse for China into NATO.

SK is offering so much to get this deal it looks suspicious.

Well when 'googling' - "Is Chinese influence growing in South Korea" - returns this:

  • Growing Anti-China Sentiment:
    • Public Opinion:
There's a noticeable increase in negative public sentiment towards China among South Koreans, fueled by various factors like historical grievances, concerns about China's regional ambitions, and incidents like the recent Yellow Sea dispute.

    • Political Rhetoric:
Presidential candidates, like Yoon Suk-yeol, have capitalized on anti-China sentiment during campaigns, although they also acknowledge the need for balanced relations

      Regional Security:
South Korea is increasingly aligning its foreign policy with the US and other regional partners to counter China's growing influence and assert a rules-based order.
      Balancing Act:
South Korea is attempting to balance its economic dependence on China with its security interests and alliance with the US, which is becoming more difficult.
      In Conclusion:
While China's economic influence in South Korea is undeniable, the growing anti-China sentiment and the evolving geopolitical landscape are complicating the relationship. South Korea is navigating a complex situation, trying to balance its economic ties with China, its security alliance with the US, and its own national interests

WTF?

SK is offering so much because it make geopolitical sense to do so. And if they wanted to infiltrate NATO through "military sales*", they've already done it with Poland buying basically everything on the menu.

*completely ridiculous, F-35 kill switch levels of ridiculous

As far as SK offer it looks like they are planning:
  • maint facilitites on both coasts
  • training package
  • Land Based Test Facility on the East Coast
  • Local battery production (thats a big one for Ontario)
  • Tech Transfer
  • access/participation to the Korean Defence Supply Chain and future projects

Some of those things are probably going to be in the RFP (maint for sure). Others are a just extra (Local battery production and supply chain access).

That battery production might just be aimed at the new SK facility built in Windsor, that might just be looking for some extra work depending on what Stellantis (Chrysler) ends up doing with auto production in Canada after the Orangeman is through with the CDN auto sector.

I think this is a little dated because Lee Jae-myung is SK's president and by everything I have seen he is very pro-China.
It does not take long to find allegations of Chinese election interference on his behalf.

A post from December by Lei's Real Talk outlining China's influence in South Korean politics

Lee Jae-myung: Opportunity for a China-South Korea Reset?

Just because Poland bought their kit and took the risk does not mean we should.

Google Chinese backdoors.
Huawei 5G devices, Power grid infrastructure, Medical devices, Gantry cranes, RCMP Drones that the U.S. has told us we can't use on their border. China's backdoor threat is well known.

Maybe not a kill switch but It's my understanding NATO subs share sound signature libraries of friend and foe vessels among other intel. A Chinese backdoor could transmit that data to the CCP.

You can call me ridiculous if it makes you feel better but it does not change the fact that China loves backdoors. Or that the new SK government is China friendly.

It looks suspicious. I'm only saying it should be investigated.

Lake Erie is too shallow to dive. So it’s perfect…
