Self Defence in Canada (split from Gun Control 2.0)

Took my wife for a walk in the woods near a popular trail, we went off trail and it looked like there were no people around, so I had her practice with a small can of dog spray. All went well and as we moved back to the trail, a bunch of ladies were coughing and hacking as they had been downwind but out of sight. Oops, we innocently walked quickly the other way.

My preference when I worked in the bush alone was bearspray and a shotgun loaded with magnum 3" Brenneke slugs. If there was two of us, I would get the other person to carry the spray. Generally have the person deploy the spray and if that did not work, then the shotgun. You need to wait till the bear is very close with the spray and that is very unnerving. Also you need to aim for the face.

Most bear defense guys I know, have now switched to lever action 45/70's. Far better penetration than even the best shotgun slug.

He isn’t wrong on one thing, we have failed hence the increase in crime, lack of protection, drug usage in public, random stabbings, home invasion increases, etc.

Our country is not as safe as it was a decade ago. Our policies encourage criminals and make things worse. Joe public is on their own whether they like it or not and the only thing the State wants to actively do is prevent them from protecting themselves and their families.

It’s never we have a solution to the repeat offenders constantly getting released, or the lack of jail cells, etc. it is only if you try to defend yourself we will go through every possible avenue to punish you for having the audacity to try.

And people wonder why I don't have faith in the police or our justice system.
Yeah.

Agreed, but you know the saying “1 oh shit can wipe out a thousand attaboys…”

He poisoned the message with his comment about submission.

Speaking of Toronto cops here's a fella who takes the long shot with his pistol against a homeless dude with a knife backing away.

Caught an assault causing bodily harm for his trouble. Bold move shooting past the cop in front of him like that.

Really? Not an expert, but I thought he almost hit the other officer.

What you see in that video is the concept of compression. They have no reason to be compressing on the guy with the knife forcing a confrontation. It happens. Stress. Someone has to control the response.

You gotta be special to police in Toronto. They charge the shooter often enough that it’s not unlikely- they use the idea that “the other cops didn’t have their guns out” as part of it.

Guy with knife gets LL with lethal overwatch. Circumstances surrounding the call are unknown but you also can’t have an erratic dude with a butcher knife get away into the roadway or public areas- but I don’t know the factors, there may be a camp or something at the beginning? That video is wild for lots of reasons.

As for breaking into my house…I don’t recommend it if my family is home 🤷‍♀️

I have faith in the ordinary constable. Their leadership - if you can call it that - is a different story. This "police" officer can stick his advice where the sun don't shine.

The cops here in Winnipeg were soundly denounced for obtaining a search warrant to search - get this - a homeless camp.

That is a wild call. The officer shot him because he started cutting his neck. That’s a hard one to articulate…
Suicide is illegal. They shot him to stop him from breaking the law, obviously. 😄

Why were they denounced for that? It’s legally correct if you want to be confident that evidence you find will be admitted.

A homeless camp .

I’ve noticed in the last few days several sketchy people in our area.
The nearest Wal Mart was the scene of a crime involving a cO2 pistol.
I’ll see if I can find it.

Just because someone’s living rough doesn’t mean police get to just arbitrarily go through all their stuff. Search warrants are generally not hard to get, and makes the search presumptively reasonable in court. It would suck to find some good evidence of various offences and have it all tossed cause you were lazy and didn’t get a simple warrant.

My experiences with LEOs puts me at odds with your perception. And that's ok, were allowed be have different opinions.

I am a law abiding CAF member, so I don't have massive amounts of interaction with them, but the times I have had, and my observations over 46 years; have left me with the position I am in now.
