Not arguing that a taser is less lethal. But a taser is a use of force with potential to be lethal, and needs to be viewed as such in any evaluation of options.

Yes, I promise we know that. Any use of force has the potential to be lethal, obviously different uses of force have different likelihood of that. Reasonableness doesn’t compel us to hang back afraid of fringe outliers. Not arguing that a taser is less lethal. But a taser is a use of force with potential to be lethal, and needs to be viewed as such in any evaluation of options.
Stupid post.....folks have died tripping over a curb, everything in your life has the potential to be lethal. Not arguing that a taser is less lethal. But a taser is a use of force with potential to be lethal, and needs to be viewed as such in any evaluation of options.

We used the term "unintended consequences " when what shouldn't have happened, happened.
Who’s selling Taser as non-lethal? The manufacturer has used the appropriate term “less-lethal” for many years.Tripping is an accident.
Pointing a weapon at someone and pulling the trigger is not an accident.
Taser is sold as non-lethal, but it is not.
I stand corrected; took a second look and you are correct, it was the firefighter who took him down, not the taser which I don't even think was fired.Disagreed. I’ve been tasered. If it gets you right, you’re down for five seconds (or longer if the trigger remains held), but you aren’t unconscious and once the arc stops you can immediately move and fight. You can see the frame where he gets the halligan in the dome and his head rotates. Pretty sure he was lights out while still on his feet.
Agreed. As an aside, that cop was utter junk. The firefighter should never have been left hung out to dry to be in that position.
Oh that was the other thing- a taser cycling is a really distinct sound. I didn’t hear it.I stand corrected; took a second look and you are correct, it was the firefighter who took him down, not the taser which I don't even think was fired.
Anyone whose watched Police vs Fire Dept Charity Ice Hockey games knows you should probably never pick a fight with the fire deptDisagreed. I’ve been tasered. So if I come up behind you and trip you up into live traffic we get to call that an "accident"?Tripping is an accident.
Pointing a weapon at someone and pulling the trigger is not an accident.
Taser is sold as non-lethal, but it is not.
When you trip yourself, that’s an accident. When you trip someone else then that’s assault. So if I come up behind you and trip you up into live traffic we get to call that an "accident"?
Good to know....
Im aware, it was all part of my response to the absurdity of saying that a laser is sold as non-lethal.When you trip yourself, that’s an accident. When you trip someone else then that’s assault.

I have a different term for those - I call them "foreseeable circumstances"Im aware, it was all part of my response to the absurdity of saying that a laser is sold as non-lethal.
It is not, and neither are ASP's, pepper balls/spray, mace, shields,....all have the ability to cause lethal "unintended consequences".
I've been tasered, OC sprayed and tear gassed. Despite that tear gas has little effect on me (and none on my son, a former CAF member) I'd rather "ride the lightning" for 5 seconds than deal with 20 - 30 minutes of OC or CS pain.I would rather be tasered than OC sprayed again, or punched in the head, or hit with a blunt weapons.
Yup. Generally, taser either works well or not at all.I've been tasered, OC sprayed and tear gassed. Despite that tear gas has little effect on me (and none on my son, a former CAF member) I'd rather "ride the lightning" for 5 sexonds than deal with 20 - 30 minutes of OC or CS pain.
That being said, OC is not Kung-fu-in-a-can, and tasers have limitations as well.
I get to see the results of tasers not working...I usually need to use cool drugs. I suggested more than once that we get some dart guns for the ER, but apparently the optics of shooting someone in the ER with one are poor...Yup. Generally, taser either works well or not at all.
