This may be a little off topic, But I was watching Tactical to Practical on the HIstory channel, and they showed the US Marines new way to fit uniforms. They have this large scanner that new recruits stand in for 30 seconds. The computer then takes the data and shoots out a set of sizes that will fit the new recruit perfectly. I thought it was very interesting sure beats the old tape measure.

Wow, we didn't have that luxury when I got in, and that was only 2 and a half years a go.. The supply tech just eyed each of us, threw each of us a uniform and said "try these."

Last I checked.   No body listens to it, but it's not.

True, you are correct on both counts.

BTW, good research by PViddy. You post is exactly the answer.

Fleece is meant to replace the shirt under the jacket/parka...but in the three seasons you may not want to wear your jacket I have seen countless pers putting the fleece under a shirt (remember RSMs used to have aneurysms by the dozen when fleece was being worn as an outer layer.)

Thanks gentleman.

only reason i know this was because i was wondering the same question few months ago when shopping for the stuff (i am a CIC officer and have the old IECS stuff).  This link/video should answer almost all your questions.

cheers guys

Hammond,

We have a very similar optically-based uniform measuring system.   It is currently in use on our major bases.....

Optically-based? Would that be when the supp-tech looks at you and says "Here, this'll fit..."

We've got one locally who can measure your feet by looking at them...

Yeah,

So when i talk about a link, i guess i should post it eh ?  for your operational clothing interests...

Sig Op,

Your evident sarcasm aside, Edmonton, Petawawa and Valcartier all have the automated measuring booths.  You step inside wearing your underwear and are optically scanned within a few seconds.  Your precise measurements are then immediately available for clothing selection and issue.

I must say that I liked your crack about the Sup Tech who can measure feet just by looking at them... ;)
