The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Manufacturer claims need to be taken with a large grains of salt.

Besides, endurance includes transit time; time on station is important.

Time on station is inversely related to transit time. Increase time on station by reducing transit time to zero.

Park the kites in Iqaluit.

Is Iqaluit any worse a posting than Fort Greeley? Or Thule?

😁

Once again, fuel is the issue.

We try not to burn all of the local’s fuel supply. It is better to bring our own from the south and burn that.

Anoyher couple of reasons why Bombardier and the Government might be interested in Saab.

Sweden. and Finland, by virtue of their neutral status, have been forced to build up capabilities that Canada lacks. Perhaps it is worth the suboptimal purchase of a couple of squadrons of Gripens to acquire some lost expertise. Particularly in complex integration projects.

I am not sure it is worthwhile to attach ourselves to a nation/company who has minimal/no experience building next generation fighter aircraft and large drones to go alongside them, especially if it would require us to compromise by adopting yesterdays aircraft into a mixed fleet. There is many other better equipped partners to choose from if we are interested in evolving technology and regaining expertise, ones that likely won't come with the same compromises.

Which announcement do people think will come first - our decision on the F35, beyond the 16 we are already getting, and/or the Gripen ongoing saga or the sub decision?

With the King/Queen of Sweden arriving on 18 Nov through 20 Nov, it would look like the F35/Gripen saga might come to a head first.

I can't believe this hasn't been publicly decided yet... are they using it as leverage with the US?

"If you don't lift tariff's we're going make sure we have a less capable fighter force!"

It has been stated that we're trying to extract the maximum possible concessions out of Lockheed Martin through this process, so I'd say it's partially that but also the Govt pushing this off due to the unavoidable optics of such a large purchase of a well known American system.
