Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Further to my last, Christy Clark is already getting caught in her lies about whether or not she joined the CPC to vote for Jean Charest.

But honestly, I’m still worried about her running. She has no ties to to this government, is more “centrist” and is very disarming. I could see her wooing back a lot of disaffected Liberals and even “Red Tories”. PP will need to up his game if they make her leader.
Worse then that she's the type that will say what ever she needs to in order to win

Do Freeland & Carney still sit on the Board of Trustees for WEF? ...
According to this, Freeland yes, Carney no.

Then again, all sorts of people seem to have had contact with the WEF without any apparent ill effect, too ;)

On the other hand, some also say ANY taint is too much.

It’s a little different for governments as it is still the same entity which committed the actions even if it isn’t the same people in government.
that is a Hadfield and McCoy form of logic. By insisting on government apologize for perceived sins more than one's lifetime in the past you are simply perpetuating the guilt trip instead of moving forward. Might just as well insist that the Danes apologize to the descendants of the Beothuk peoples for invading Newfoundland. We shouldn't be imposing our current thoughts on our history: we simply weren't there and don't know what really happened. For proof, just consider the events of the last 5 years. We are discovering that the logic behind everything from CO2 and its effect on climate, the truckers thing, COVID and our responses are being called into question. A century from now which version of those events will be in the history books?

Christy Clark may do ok outside BC. She won’t do well in BC.
I doubt she'll do well outside of BC either. Her track record speaks for itself...

It would be like David Eby running for PM. Take one look at BC's state of affairs & it becomes instantly obvious he ain't the guy to fix our problems

Didn’t even think about the “no ties” angle.

Can’t say “they’re all Trudeau” if she has never been in the LPC.
But she has been LPC since she was young. Apparently her activities with the campus Liberals at SFU were legendary. She may have let her membership lapse since the BC Liberals cut their ties from the federal party.

Yeah her name might still be mud in BC, but she’s probably not as well known east of the Rockies and may come across as an attractive package to Liberal Trudeau-haters out that way.

I think she would do surprisingly well. I'm betting Liberals are desperate to get back to supporting their party without looking like idiots for supporting Trudeau. Anyone will be seen as a new face and justifiable reason to come back (and ignoring the 9 years of fuckery).

Lots of Canadians just dont care about ethics and missing or misappropriation money.

Then by all means I hope she enters and wins the leadership.

It's a possibility...

Former colleagues say Christy Clark shouldn't be underestimated in federal Liberal leadership race

“I really think those who might dismiss her in this race out of the gate really do so at their own peril. She builds great teams around her. She has the potential to really get people on board. She has been a member of the Liberal Party of Canada for a very long time.”

While remembered in her home province as the leader of a party — the B.C. Liberals — that represented a coalition of federal Liberals and Conservatives, Clark has been consistent about where her loyalty lies when it comes to the federal stage.

She was a member of the Young Liberals during her time at Simon Fraser University in the 1980s. Her father, Jim, had run provincially three times for the party when it was still connected to the federal brand.

His daughter later joined with Gordon Wilson and others to give the provincial Liberals their independence in the lead-up to the 1991 election, but has spoken about her continuing affinity for the federal party often in the decades since.

Clark also served as a staffer in the Jean Chretien administration, where she worked beside LeBlanc. The pair have remained close friends in the years since.

Mike Bernier, former B.C. Liberal MLA for Peace River South, says one of the main strengths Clark brings to the table is her charisma and ability to bring people together.

A government can say the State was wrong for past actions without it being a eternal guilt trip. As a simple example do you think the government if it was historically involved in slavery shouldn’t apologize for having been involved?

A apology for wrong doing is a sign of moving forward. Acknowledging blame is part of taking responsibility. Sticking your head in the sand and pretending nothing bad ever happened due to governmental action is a childish action.

Also for the record the sins which I suspect your referencing to (most likely the land acknowledgments and residential schools) happened much sooner than one lifetime ago. So if that is what you are referring to, then by your own logic they should be apologizing for those actions.

Well lookie here - La Petit Pomme de Terre is far more divisive than PP.

Home heating oil tax in the Maritimes was canned - the rest of Canada? Nothing

The treatment of those who questioned the Covid vax?

Or calling those that don't agree with him "Nazis"?

How about a break for SNC Lavalin and the firing of a competent cabinet member?
