Lanyards, okay. And ascots for shirt sleeve orders.

That brings back memories. Hated dickies, but could tolerate puttees. Bloused trousers are a must for a military look although high topped boots are best for that. Yes, I'm one of those who like his Corcoran boots.

Is tradition now defined as “existed before 1968”?

Of course.

It seems like we’ve had a longer period without most of these dress items, surely that makes it more traditional.

Then it's definitely time to change. Every tradition has a Day 1. Sometimes Day 1 is merely a throwback to a tradition from Day - 24,245.

I do sometimes wonder where these throwback ideas come from because there is no one left in the system from the "old days."

I preferred my 51 Pattern to that abomination of webbing called 64 Pat. the 51 was useful, stayed put and carried a lot. Mostly it just needed a better yoke.

I wore Square rig as a Cadet, my friends in Army Cadets wore Battledress. I gave my daughter a Battledress jacket and she loves it, as do her friends who think it's uber cool.

The intent of the 64 pattern was to be very light for easy use in APCs. That and the six magazine pouches built into the combat shirt - just brilliant. Ever run with mags in your pockets? Then there was the C2 mag brassiere for everybody. Pure genius.

The battledress "blouse" was actually a pretty good piece of kit. Hated the trousers. Itchy as hell.

Bandaids on your nipples was advised if carrying mags in your Combat Shirt breast pockets! They were only good for smokes, notepad or compasses.To be fair to the "Bra" , that was something, pretty much every nation was doing at the time.

The size of the magazine loops in the side pockets of the shirt worked perfectly for holding four cans of beer.

TBFH I don't understand why the scope of the project wasn't solely to get a new uniform (jacket, shirt, and pants).
While the brown boots look good, I am not sure why there needed to be separate colors for Officers/CWO's and the others.
Yes the white vinyl belt was a travesty - so pick a nice brown/black belt and call it a day.

I fail to see why a new beret needed to be acquired? Of course I am also one of the folks who can't fathom why the ranks changed from the common ranks that had been used since unification.

The unified officer ranks were the best in NATO in my opinion, very easy to read and understand. Pips and crowns aren’t nearly as effective.

A collection of LCols at the Army Officer Mess in Ottawa willfully, deliberately, and knowingly undermined the commander of the Army (LGen Devlin). And got their fucking colonial symbols back.

Really? I find the stripes super simple. If I saw a stripe it was a sir/ma’am. None of this, is that a warrant or a major nonsense.

Im on team pips as well. Its completely unambiguous. If you mix up big and little crown I recommend better glasses since the big one is like 5 times the size haha.

Yes, and I say this because of a rceme tradition, craftsman before they get their hook would wear a thin green stripe. Has been tradition since the 50s. Pipes prevents privates from being saluted. And passed hey its an officer, pipes are easier then stripes to identify the actual rank from a distance.

The Warrant crown is significantly larger, and in DEUs, there's no possibility of mistaking a Warrant for a Major.
