Direct from DLR 5-4 New Army Service Dress Project Manager: 800 uniforms issued in Q3 2027 for a major ceremonial event, with the remainder of the army being kitted out beginning Q1 2028.

Keep in mind that for the CAF, Q3 of FY 2027 is October - December 2027. So we are about 17 months out from seeing this uniform on parade.

Nope! whoever said that was incorrect. Design refinement after this winter's fit trial begins now and goes through the fall, right into the maternity cut design at the end of the year.

Ironic as I remember the musings 2 years ago the plan was to have the Strats pimped out for their parade last year.

Latest and greatest.
Any idea if there is a plan to reduce the number of badges or sub unit identifiers on the uniform? Are they planning to retain the divisional badges, brigade identifiers, name tags, operational command badge, etc? I think less is more.

The uniform looks sharp. Could be disappointing to have it emblazed with a plethora of decoration that might take your eye off the clean look of the uniform itself. So sharp that I could imagine some 5 button special operations folks eyeing it.

One request: A crew neck khaki/olive sweater reminiscent of the older green “combat sweater”. I know – lots of kit. But in a future where I’d hope CF members aren’t wearing combats in an office environment every day, maybe bringing back the sweater would bridge the strict formalism of the complete service dress with a nod to practical climate and environment. Would look sharper than fleece.

One nitpick: Maybe colour the tie a slightly lighter shade from that of the tunic and slacks.

Or you know Troops wearing combats at Remembrance Day parades which is specifically prohibited in the dress regs.

The command badge for the army will no longer be a thing. They have already stopped it's production. Army members employed by other commands will still wear that commands badge, for example, any army member posted to the VCDS branch would still wear the VCDS command badge, same with CJOC, CANSOF, etc.

I am not sure what you are describing, the current army DEU has a sweater that can be worn when wearing DEU without the jacket. The new service dress will also have the sweater, in the new colours, and with a crew neck instead of the shallow V of the current sweater.

Thank you for information. Was looking at this from the outside. I like the crew neck infinitely more than the v-neck and think it's smart dress. I used to wear the NATO blue crew neck sweaters when i was sailing. Loved it on bridge watch in wet winter climates like the North Sea or trans Atlantic to ARA.
