Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

My point is that GGs individually cost about the same as a single VAC education cost.

Probably not a huge drain on the public purse, relatively speaking.
Based on the 2021 census, 80,000+ vets with 10+ years of service. So lets say each takes the 90k. Thats $7,200,000,000 on vet education benefits. Compared to this, GG is a drop in the bucket.

USA: We'll build libraries / museums for former presidents.

Canada: We hate former GGs.

Former national leaders should be encouraged and supported to remain engaged and involved in civic life.

Each GG is spending about the salary of a MWO IPC 4 (non spec) or Capt IPC 4 (GSO) (excluding employer costs and any allowances).

If you can guarantee me that there are not five MWO / Capt+ in the CAF who aren't pulling their weight, I will agree that support to former GGs should be kiboshed.

(I am not asking for a list of names ;) )

A common theme here is that we need to normalize and incentivize not having to spend a full 25 years in the military. Get in, do some stuff, move on as a productive member of the civilian work force. The VAC Education money for 6 and 12 years service is great for that. Whether it's a Lt Col or a Cpl. Less so for the former.

It's quite different than 70 or 80+ year old former GG's who made $400K/yr for 5 years getting a hidden slush fund for the rest of their life.

Buying them a new car every year would hardly break the bank; it's the principle not the dollar amount.

What about the same fund for MPs once they retire? Or former party leaders, say Poilievre after he moves on?

I had a CO that took ages to sign off 152s because they were writing off 60K; and that was more than what the average Canadian made. It truly concerned him. And he would bring me in to talk about them all the time. I appreciated his concern, but my quarterly's come due... every quarter.

How many of these little drains are making up the big drain ?

Next thing you know you'll be saying that a Constitutional Monarchy is a waste of time and money and that we should become a Republic, which is clearly far cheaper and more effective ;)

No no no, you are going a wrong way, clearly many have expressed we cant trust politicians so let's throw everything back into the monarch. Full monarchy again!

I would support the establishment of a truly Canadian monarchy, fully separated and detached from anything to do with the UK.

Though Canada is a nice country, clearly the US way of doing things for the last 250 years was superior.

You're about to hear a bunch of crap that totally ingnores 240 years of history and focuses in fully on Trump.

Stand by.

Just another rounding error to hide from the public.

Liberals block motion to make health minister testify on failed e-prescribing program

There is still no clarity on what happened to $200 million of taxpayer funds that was earmarked for the e-prescribing service

Last week during a committee meeting, while discussing a potential review of the program, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health Maggie Chi moved to hold the meeting in-camera. A vote followed, with no explanation as to why the debate needed to be shielded from the public.

Like ALL (well, almost all), countries, there are periods within their history when they truly shine bright and are really the beacon on a hill. There are also times when the opposite is true. Some countries have more of 1 than the other. Some had their 'moment in Sun' 2,000+yrs ago (I'm looking at you Greece), for others the last 20-50-100yrs have been solid.

Good time, as well as bad times, ebb and flow like the tide.

The US has certainly had some great years, decades and then they've had some bad ones. For me, overall during the last 250yrs, they've had alot more good than bad.

Since Altair found that amusing, I'm sure he'll be along shortly to explain how Canada became the most economic and militarily powerful and free nation on the planet while the US has just stagnated.

If you were are an European settler or their descendants - yes. Aboriginal not so much.
