17 Oct 2026: Major fire at CFB Wainwright

Ashleigh Stewart from Global thinks something is amiss.

Was already posted further up, anyway some of this investigation will come down to who knew what and when regarding the fire. I do hope this was all tragic accident and not a case of negligence on someone's part.

I will plead to my fellow soldiers and ex-soldiers, please do not feed the media machine. They need stories on slow days and have used the military time and time again for digging up dirt where there wasn't any.

I am asking you, pleading with you. Trust the BOI and the process. I have been involved with BOIs before, they work. They provide answers. They have a lot of legal power backing them up.

I agree with Infanteer's views on training risk.

I had someone claiming to be a investigative reporter reach out to me on this platform because I pointed out what a quick google search could find. There are definitely sharks circling for a feed on this topic.

Yup. Realistically though, while it’s fair to hope for patience and objectivity from most folks, I don’t think CAF will have the benefit of much public blind faith in self-investigation on something like this. That’s just not how things are anymore.

IMO it’s also entirely fair game to report on publicly available data with actual expert input. Environment Canada didn’t exactly cast themselves in a good light by initially withholding public weather data from the same reporter when asked about this earlier.

I agree 100%.

There is a lot of data that is publicly available that is entirely fair game for reporters and interested parties to comment on, and reporters would not be doing their job if they didn't. I think the Global article from earlier today is well presented, and seems like it's striking a balance between pointing out inconsistencies in the initial story, while also allowing for "in the moment" confusion to explain the inconsistencies.
