    Reserve BMQ

I'm not sure what ltmaverick25 wants you to infer. 56th and 11th, like all units, each contains a mix of different personalities, and I've worked with good people from both. Join the one closer to you and find out for yourself if it's the right fit for you.

    Reserve BMQ

Queen's starts on the 14th, Western and Ottawa on the 9th; I didn't bother looking up any other start date, but they are probably after Labour Day as well. You are right that the course dates aren't ideal, but it's not that different from any other year in which courses/Maple Guardian/Vigilant...

    Reserve BMQ

Sep 1 is on a Tuesday this year, pushing Labour Day to Sep 7 (and schools begin classes after Labour Day), so it won't be a problem. University of Toronto, for one, will begin classes on Sep 9th. Registration for courses tend to take place online well before September anyway.

    Reserve BMQ

Are you moving to Toronto for school? The commute to a parade night would be kind of difficult otherwise...if it's artillery you want, both 56th Field Regiment (St Catherines + Brantford) and 11th Field Regiment (Hamilton + Guelph) are closer to Niagara Falls.

    re-taking a course

You aren't gonna get any other answer beside "talk to your unit/CoC" here. The CoC at your unit, not random strangers on the internet, is what can get you on another BMQ. Be more specific: why was talking to your unit/CoC not useful?

War is hell – but there are standards

What should Britain do instead? Kill these men without a trial? Send them back to Iraq to be tortured and killed? What they (allegedly) did was despicable, but they will be punished for it according to the rule of law. It may boil our blood to provide them with the legal rights they denied to...

Canadian Public Opinion Polls on Afghanistan

Polls from small sample sizes can reflect the opinion of general population very accurately, subject to statistical limitations. It is statistically unlikely for the many polls that have consistently shown a majority of the Canadian public to be against the war in Afghanistan to have been all...

Moss Park BMQ, Starting Nov. 21, 2008, until completion

You won't need 550 cord. Really.

Moss Park BMQ, Starting Nov. 21, 2008, until completion

Haha. No sir, I'm not too lazy to read. I read all of my joining instructions carefully, but they just haven't been very useful (wrong reporting details, unnecessary things on kit list, etc). That being said, I haven't been on that many courses, so I'll defer to the good MCpl and MWO here who...

Moss Park BMQ, Starting Nov. 21, 2008, until completion

Don't worry about joining instructions; I've yet to find a joining instruction that contains any useful information beside the course dates. Show up on time, and your staff will let you know what's going on.

    Killing Canadians 'best way': student

Please do not generalize the behaviour of all minorities based on this bad apple and other anecdotal encounters that you have had. I am one of many minority members of the Canadian Forces Reserves, in Toronto, and speaking for myself at least, I do not appreciate your lumping us in with Salman...

    promotions and time frame

Heh. I assume the former Chief Clerk in question is Mr. Harding, not mack333. I was simply trying to give some general guidelines that I can infer from CFAOs. It was not meant to "advise" Mr. Harding on any level. Mr. Harding shared a very helpful and insightful quote, which is that excessive...

    promotions and time frame

Thank you for pointing that out. I speak as a reservist with only 2 years in, so any clarification of the actual time frame for promotions (i.e. not purely CFAO-based speculations) from those with real world experience would be appreciated.

    promotions and time frame

Thanks for sharing that insightful quote, Mr. Harding. I will take it to heart. As for the original question, take a look at the appropriate CFAOs: http://www.admfincs.forces.gc.ca/admfincs/subjects/cfao/049-05_e.asp (Reserve NCMs) For non-musician trades, it takes a minimum of 6 years to...

Re: Falling throught the cracks as an Anti-Monarchist ?

As a private in the reserves, I took the oath. I understand that the legal authority of the Canadian military come from the Queen, and I would not have a problem following an order from her majesty. However, that is only the legal aspect of the oath. I took the oath because I wanted to join the...

I don't quite understand your point. Can you clarify?

What did you do to get those two one-year bans? Kudos on your tenacity.

Employment Equity in the CAF ( merged )

I agree that placing quotas on visible-minority enrolment and valuing skin colour above capability is wrong. If your friend is more qualified than a female police officer, then he should have the job. However, that is not the argument here. I am not calling on the Army to lower standards for...

Employment Equity in the CAF ( merged )

I used "immigrant" interchangeably with "visible minority" because the majority of new immigrants to Canada are visible minorities. I am not aware of different immigration standards for applicants of Scandinavian and European descent, but I welcome you to enlighten me on that topic. This...

Employment Equity in the CAF ( merged )

It may not be an easy process, but intergrating non-Caucasians into the Canadian Army is an important goal. The percentage of the Canadian population that is non-white is only going to increase, and the Army should reflects that fact. Reaching out to minority applicants will NOT be "at the...
