Profs say students lack maturity, feel entitled

This is strange to me. For a long time I had thought that our system here was quite horrible, but my school may have been an exception, and it may not actually have been the curriculum. I can remember hearing about how the 120 Advanced Math and Calculus class supposedly didn't cover enough...

What are you listening to/fav type of music

What about Whispers (I Hear You), The Air That I Breathe, and This Calling?

Who lost the Vietnam war and why?

Your views are definitely shared. I recently finished Self-Destruction: The Disintegration and Decay of the United States Army During the Vietnam Era, and it possesses many of the same opinions when it comes to how the war could have been won, and has changed my outlook on the war from nothing...

What are you listening to/fav type of music

Not sure on that one, SITM. It seems to me like it could just be a song about the negative sides of combat, or it could be an outright protest against war. I hear it as the former. It's a good song that way. I can't stand listening to songs that are the latter most of the time.

Obama's war strategy focuses on AFG, PAK; US troop buildup in AFG to rise to 60K

Wonder if this means we'll keep our toys in the sandbox a little later than currently projected?

What are you listening to/fav type of music

Recently picked up the new Rise Against CD. I've been listening to it pretty often - it's really good. :D

Afghanistan: Why we should be there (or not), how to conduct the mission (or not) & when to leave

For some reason it reminds me of a time I was informed that there was no need for anyone to have a military because there were no aliens invading from space...

So, what do you do with your free time?

Websurfing, video games, music... Wikipedia is particularly fun when you start looking up things that are too obvious to have an entry and see what they say. You could also pick up some book series... I suggest Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time, all by Terry Pratchett...

Dark Cloud/Silver Lining: Recruiting in a Recession

If the CF is really as stable and secure as I've always heard, there's no reason why it wouldn't be overloaded with applications should the economy continue down the slope; I know I want to join partially for that reason. It still excites me, the thought of being a part of it and doing...

N.B. School Silences Canada National Anthem

It's making me think that maybe these "concerned parents" are the kind of people who think any sort of national pride is bad... I know some individuals who view being Canadian as anything other than a title and see any involvement in the culture as being elitist, brainwashed, corrupt, etc. I...

Recruiting Posters, Slogans and Commercials [Merged]

Might help to get people through the door if the requirements were a little more slack in some areas, actually (vision) - that's one of my obstacles right now. Unless I'm missing it on their pages, the US and British forces are more lenient on vision requirements; I am pretty sure I had read...

    World War 3 is underway

Don't know what I'd do if I couldn't read XKCD, Explosm, and Dinosaur Comics every day... and FACEBOOK! Oh noes!

More Americans Believe in the Devil, Hell and Angels than in Darwin's Theory

Definitely not surprised, although it seems in some areas there is a strong (and quick) change towards a more scientific outlook on life. This whole area definitely seems to be heading that way.

    A Short Road... Turning Long?

Spoke to medical staff at the recruiter on the 20th, and learned that you must be free of cancer for five years before you can be eligible for the CF. That slows me down even more, but just means I'll have to go back to school instead of waiting for ROTP. I'd like to get this thread added to the...

What book are you reading now?

I'm reading both The History of the Second World War by B.H. Liddell Hart and Self-Destruction: The Disintegration and Decay of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era by Cincinnatus at the same time.

Black Hawk Down book banned from US school

Yeah haha, censorship for the epic loss! I wonder how many times any of these kids have watched Anchorman with the commentary...?

    What Was/Is Your Biggest Obstacle?

(Not sure if this is in the right sub-forum or not) Exactly how it sounds - what is or was the thing(s) that is in the way of your intention to join the CF? Anything counts, whether it's vision, a certain part of the fitness test, PT or aptitude, family (not a bad thing)? Did it prevent you...
