Federal Liberal's have been planning a Federal election since November 2004. The Liberal Party
is only focused on one strategy; winning the election, always has been since inception. They
are focused on constinuencies, and their concensus is that they will easily win the Atlantic
region, hold their seats in Quebec, sweep Ontario, particularly GTA, have already written off
the "West" and will gain many seats in B.C. - which equals a Liberal majority government.
There are really no think tanks in the Liberal Party, there are no NDP style nit-pickers (NDP
can easily be bought of in any event), there is simply a relentless, totally focused political
machine, which is geared only to win - . One must consider the origins of the Party; created
by immigrants in the middle 1860's who were unacceptable to the Tory establishments of the
times. The early Liberals knew that they had the power to change and control, because they
had the numbers - a lot more voters, and potential voters that the other side. So the signs in
Halifax NS which read, "no Irish need apply" eventually were replaced by the simple fact when
I was a boy growing up in N.S. one had to be an Irish Catholic to get on the Halifax Fire
Department, which continued for many, many years. Thus, from a political perspective MP Belinda
Stronach made a gutsy, shrewd political move, but I'll bet she talked to her Dad about it. MacLeod
