Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

I think the LPC has learned that they can let the far left portion if their party leave, if they move back toward the centre where most voters exist. The far left push during the Trudeau The Lesser years was an anomaly.
Yup. Give away some votes on the left edge to pick up more in the center. It makes sense strategically.

When your PM is an electorally efficient PC with a soupçonne of Neovert, *losing some far left doesn’t even warrant the start of an intake of breath for a ‘meh.’

Right now I think you're right.

But I think if winds start to blow left again the LPC will just abandon their new found positions. And hearled the return of Trudeau-esque policies. Canada is back, I think they said.

The LPC are not geniuses. They just listen to what the populace is upset about and say they're the guys to fix it.

They have no principles or standards. What ever will keep them in power, they will say. I have to hand it to that party they run campaigns to win elections, principals and policy standards be damned.
Bingo, you nailed it.

The point I am trying to bring up is the far left left flank was a strong portion of the LPC. WIth Carney basically sorta kind of maybe endorsing pipelines to be built in 2237, he is not making friends with those that should be with Avi Lewis anyways.

People also mention the LPC securing more votes from the center. New thought, I have seen a many of the pollsters say that the breakdown by age group for voting intent shows Large majority of the older voters (55+) support Carney (not even so much the LPC), the 35-55 age group had a slight advantage to Carney and the under 35 are majority supporting CPC. We are apparently now the only western nation where a majority of the younger voters are leaning to the political right. This is all based on national averages.

Another observation to make is we have seen the CAQ wiped out in Quebec (Frecchette said at the start of her campaign she is running against Donald Trump and look at what that got her). David Eby tried to exploit Conservative head-less situation and claimed at first he was running against Trump and now he is floundering. Can not wait to see the results of that election. The only person who can realistically get away (for now) with "Orange man bad" strategy is Mark Carney himself, and I will point out again, one of his strengths is timing. The man is a master of the right announcements at the right time, to make it look good. Results be damned. How long until this stops working?

On a similar note, there was a CTV political panel that went to town on Chrystia Freeland (I haven't read her new book but apparently she is launching Trudeau directly under an overloaded bus at high speeds). She was chastised for "not speaking up then: although to her credit, she did screw him by resigning in December 2024 before the budget which set things in motion.

I agree with @Halifax Tar that the LPC will say or do anything to gain and retain power. Change values, positions, allies, trade opportunities, anything to get a better political position. I believe it was you, that said last election we get the government we deserve.

I saw something interesting, wish I kept track of the video. A Youtuber asked random people in an heavily urban Ontario city (Can't remember what city), to name 5 members of the Liberal party of Canada, the vast majority of people could only name Mark Carney. A few could name 2 or 3. only like a small handful of people could name 5 or more MPs of the LPC. And when it came to the CPC, just as bad, the could only name Pierre Poilievre. And one person (face redacted) said Pierre Poilievre and Doug Ford (face palm! Seriously?).

This was kind of alarming and shows the general political ignorance of Canadians (or apathy?)

Pretty sure that's a common thing around the world, a person can only know so many people (or those that are immediately relevant to them). I'm more worried about the ones that don't know stuff like their own MP and MLA or the current PM.

I may have muttered those words from time to time.

I tend to agree. All parties have migrated to a type of cult of personality: 'the Mark Carney government', 'the Poilievre Conservatives', etc. and any announcement or letter opening larger than something completely minor and local needs to have the leader and maybe a minister, with the local member reduced to a nodding, smiling head.

For those of you who cheer for Carney, his government has just awarded a 12 million dollar contract to an American firm that provides security for ICE. Their bid was 80,000 less than the commissionaires'. Elbows up, by Canadian. Carney appears to have learnt his ethics from Justin. And the same article has overall contracts with U.S. firms up by 5% over last year. The article is in the Toronto Sun. Going on standby now and waiting for the explanations.

You mean a firm whose subsidiaries also provide security for the majority of banks in Canada and is one of the main security companies in the World? A Company that is known globally for its commercial security forces?

For the of you who cheer for facts, the decision was made by the last government. One of the main reasons cited is that Veteran employment fell well below the 60 that the original post war mandate demanded.
AI Overview

The Treasury Board of Canada decision to rescind the Common Services Policy officially revoked the original framework establishing the Right of First Refusal (RFR) for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. This structural policy change took effect on March 31, 2023. [1]

Context & Implementation Timeline
  • The Transition Period: When the Treasury Board rescinded the historical policy in early 2023, authority was delegated to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VAC) to implement a temporary Policy on Procurement of Guard Services. This extension kept the RFR active strictly through a three-year evaluation period slated to end on March 31, 2026. [1]
  • The Final Termination Notice: Following that evaluation period, Veterans Affairs Minister Jill McKnight issued a formal notification to the Commissionaires in February 2026. The notice confirmed that the preferential entitlement will officially terminate in April 2027 following a one-year grace period designed to transition federal guard services to a fully competitive procurement process. I will argue this is a merely the continuation of the same government, but with a more competent PM. Mind you JT set the "more competence" bar quite low.

and the contract to provide security with an American company was made this year. Bad optics but we must support Carney's decisions mustn't we

Also a company known for:

-unpaid work Issues
-improper meal deductions for employees
-wage and hour violations a
-a lawsuit and settlement for racial discrimination in hiring
-reported shortcomings in training, supervision and working conditions

This is totally irrelevant to the issue at hand they are providing security for a government department not the entrance to Fort Knox.

Whats new in the LPC news lately?

-Feds spent $4.8M on Microsoft licenses that government employees didn't even use

-Air Canada to charge $30 if you call them to book your flight [good omen for privatization]

-Canada’s immigration levels could soon be increased [which Carney announced on American news first, just like his intention to run for PM]
