Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Interesting take from "independent journalist" Rachel Gilmore. I know many of you will be surprised I am posting one of her videos (I mean it when I say I listen to ALL sides of the political spectrum and not just pay it lip service)

I have said it before, the far left flank of the LPC is sliding away.

I think the LPC has learned that they can let the far left portion if their party leave, if they move back toward the centre where most voters exist. The far left push during the Trudeau The Lesser years was an anomaly.

We have to remember that Harper lost in 2015 much more than Trudeau won.

Note that that rejection of the CPC was the only time under Trudeau 2.0 that the LPC squeaked out a majority of seats in the House. Subsequent elections saw LPC minority governments despite CPC having greater national vote counts - if nothing else, the LPC vote is more efficient than the CPC vote.

Yup. Give away some votes on the left edge to pick up more in the center. It makes sense strategically.

Right now I think you're right.

But I think if winds start to blow left again the LPC will just abandon their new found positions. And hearled the return of Trudeau-esque policies. Canada is back, I think they said.

The LPC are not geniuses. They just listen to what the populace is upset about and say they're the guys to fix it.

They have no principles or standards. What ever will keep them in power, they will say. I have to hand it to that party they run campaigns to win elections, principals and policy standards be damned.

This altered sentence is also true. They are all the same.

When your PM is an electorally efficient PC with a soupçonne of Neovert, loosing some far left doesn’t even warrant the start of an intake of breath for a ‘meh.’

Bingo, you nailed it.

The point I am trying to bring up is the far left left flank was a strong portion of the LPC. WIth Carney basically sorta kind of maybe endorsing pipelines to be built in 2237, he is not making friends with those that should be with Avi Lewis anyways.

People also mention the LPC securing more votes from the center. New thought, I have seen a many of the pollsters say that the breakdown by age group for voting intent shows Large majority of the older voters (55+) support Carney (not even so much the LPC), the 35-55 age group had a slight advantage to Carney and the under 35 are majority supporting CPC. We are apparently now the only western nation where a majority of the younger voters are leaning to the political right. This is all based on national averages.

Another observation to make is we have seen the CAQ wiped out in Quebec (Frecchette said at the start of her campaign she is running against Donald Trump and look at what that got her). David Eby tried to exploit Conservative head-less situation and claimed at first he was running against Trump and now he is floundering. Can not wait to see the results of that election. The only person who can realistically get away (for now) with "Orange man bad" strategy is Mark Carney himself, and I will point out again, one of his strengths is timing. The man is a master of the right announcements at the right time, to make it look good. Results be damned. How long until this stops working?

On a similar note, there was a CTV political panel that went to town on Chrystia Freeland (I haven't read her new book but apparently she is launching Trudeau directly under an overloaded bus at high speeds). She was chastised for "not speaking up then: although to her credit, she did screw him by resigning in December 2024 before the budget which set things in motion.

I agree with @Halifax Tar that the LPC will say or do anything to gain and retain power. Change values, positions, allies, trade opportunities, anything to get a better political position. I believe it was you, that said last election we get the government we deserve.

I saw something interesting, wish I kept track of the video. A Youtuber asked random people in an heavily urban Ontario city (Can't remember what city), to name 5 members of the Liberal party of Canada, the vast majority of people could only name Mark Carney. A few could name 2 or 3. only like a small handful of people could name 5 or more MPs of the LPC. And when it came to the CPC, just as bad, the could only name Pierre Poilievre. And one person (face redacted) said Pierre Poilievre and Doug Ford (face palm! Seriously?).

This was kind of alarming and shows the general political ignorance of Canadians (or apathy?)

Pretty sure that's a common thing around the world, a person can only know so many people (or those that are immediately relevant to them). I'm more worried about the ones that don't know stuff like their own MP and MLA or the current PM.

I may have muttered those words from time to time.
