Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

The one thing I'm going to really enjoy about the majority is the death of daily polling averages.

I get it,7 years of minority parliaments where any day could result in the government falling got the polling companies used to the sugar high of parties and the public wanting to know how things would be at the starting line of any campaign. But there is a majority government now, it's not falling unless it wants to fall and I don't see that happening anytime soon, because it would probably screw over the floor crossers, and I don't see Carney as being quite so ruthless just yet.

I'm going to be very happy when we all just collectively tell Nik Nanos, David Coletto, Frank Graves, whoever runs Leger that we just don't need them right now, especially as talking heads, and to go sit in the corner until 2028.

Will probably be the last one for a while being posted by me, just wanted a snapshot that includes before and after the by-elections.

For the record, I'm not targetting you on this.

It's the entire Canadian media landscape, they have turned polling companies and those who run them into rock stars. Daily polls being dished out like the penny press of old, figures like 338 Fournier and Grenier becoming household names.

It's going to be nice to get a break from all of them. Not because they are bad people....generally, but because it's just unhealthy as a democracy to be focusing on daily polls. Not every day is a campaign. It wasn't great when Trudeau was at his lowest, and it's not great now that Pierre is at his.

It sounds like desperation disconnected from reality. Agreed. You can call into question PMMCs past professional performance, his involvement with the last Gov, and his influence during the COVID kerfuffle but you cant say hi isn't well educated.

Yeah, when Carney had his PhD in the same tine it took Pierre or Andrew Scheer ti get their BAs, its really a line of attack they don't have a leg to stand on

As for high prices for fertilizer, I wonder some shifts in how fields are managed might be in order. Put a field into a cycle with a crop that requires minimal or no fertilizer and then raze it to add nutrients more naturally. Smaller yields, but perhaps more resilient?

My roomie & I have a backyard garden.

We grow everything from carrots, to potatoes, to tomatoes, to beats (beets?), to turnip, parsley, spinach, onions,etc.

We even have a few rhubarb plants on the go.

Last year, we probably pulled about 1000 tomatoes (various sizes) and about 320+-ish giant potatoes (and countless little guys)

No idea how many beats, but we still have Borsche every few weeks so I guess we grew a lot of them too


For fertilizer, I guess we kind of make our own.

We just collect all of the organic food waste throughout the year + the grass clippings from mowing the lawn, and dump it in a back corner of our yard. (Plus our very own, proprietary trick)

It freezes during the winter, but come spring we have a ton of squishy, smelly, super potent, all organic fertilizer to help all our veggies grow

(It doesn't smell until we start digging into it to use, so we keep that hole we break on the surface as small as possible to keep the smell at a minimum)

It's a shame we don't have a better system in place here in Canada (although I have no idea how on Earth a different system could even be set up, really)

Quite a few cities have a green bin program for exactly that. I am unsure what the price of the final product is, but Ottawa for example is entitled to 2000 tons per year. I assume the others are also entitled to a portion before the rest can be sold as well.

Cant speak for other cities but I know once a year the city of Calgary composite facility has a day when people can come get free composed soil from their main facility.

Mixed cover cropping does that naturally

Alfalfa as well.

Its a perennial and unless your taking it out of crop rotation for multiple years, not recommended. Mixed cover crops are the best way to go

Fallow a field is low yield return. Cover cropping, pasture rotation or best cover crop grazing rotation works best.
Its not just nitrogen we want, we need carbon (from plant root exudates primarily), hydrogen, oxygen, potassium, Phosphorus, etc.
N P K is the usual spray on, but good custom fertilizers are much more than that.
Ideally the most economical means of fertilizing your fields (Which I see as using different money returning options vice money spending only) is what we should shoot for.

Farmers have so many different opinions and views on this, it puts the political disagreements here to shame.
