Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Funny thing is, though, that a lot of people who’ve hated Team Red then & now we’re bashing him pretty hard at the time. Funny what a bit of time & distance does. Lookit how Bush Jr. (or even Sr.) was assessed while he was still at ‘er compared to now.

That’s why some say history’ll be the true judge.

Somehow I doubt the conservatives lauding Martin voted for him over Harper. The same goes for the other side. O'Toole was a nice moderate conservative. Liberals who are appalled at Poilievre should remember they got PP because they passed up O'Toole for Trudeau's most disastrous term.

Wouldn't it be better if the warring factions simply declared they don't like the 'other side' and moved on?

Mostly this thread.

Honestly don't get it. In real life, who likes the friend or relative that constantly talks about politics? And have they ever succeeded in convincing you to change your vote? Usually a serious turn off from that political brand for me. Like who wants to vote the same as their crazy uncle on Facebook?

I maintain that the message Canadians gave O'Toole was wait until the crisis is over, then we will get back to you.

The CPC didnt wait though.

Sooooo you missed the part where I showed the media and the Liberals attack O'Toole including how "Trump like" he was? It was character assassination.

Frankly O'Toole's platform and messaging were weak. I did support his run for leadership.

Good perspective. Mostly agreed.

The base isn't relevant here. What matters is the general voting public. And the LPC adapts to public concerns. That's what keeps them in power. Conservatives are, understandably, frustrated with this. But that's how the game is played. Voters can change their minds on issues and priorities. That's allowed.

I really am trying not to get involved in this thread anymore but I just wanted to tag on to this.

This is what the CPC doesn't understand. The LPC runs campaigns on getting elected at all costs and the CPC runs on principals. The CPC needs to realize Canadians are generally ok with being lied too so long as the double doubles, HNIC and free healthcare keep flowing.

This isn't just a Liberal thing. It's a thing for dominant parties everywhere. Be that Ontario or British Tories. Heck, the Republicans in the US went from pushing free trade in the 80s and 90s to imposing tariffs in three decades. This is the nature of big tent parties. The swim with the current. If you ride against the current, based on principle, you will be a protest party that just gets elected less.

The Liberals were willing to make a guy who fires climate scientists and cancel carbon taxes their leader. What sacred cow would Poilievre be willing to slaughter to get his party elected?

This is a Liberal Gov thread.

No idea, I am not PP and don't hold a CPC membership. Believe it or not I actually hold an LPC membership right now.

Doesn't matter Canadians will defend it to the death as a beacon of all that is Canadiana holy!
With a few of the more common cancer types moving down from the 50-and-over bracket into the 30-50 bracket (and younger), people are going to be more interested in actually having a GP and having timely access to the first gateway (diagnosis) to receiving treatment. Or at least they should be.

I suspect that a lot of people procrastinate when access isn't easy.
