Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and the Canadian Alliance merged in 2003. They have won 1 majority government since and it took the epic collapse of the LPC and the surge of the NDP to do it.
They have been out of power since 2015, and will be out of power until 2029 at the earliest. And yet they muddle about with a leader who is about as popular as Trudeau was before he stepped down, who the electorate seems hellbent on not electing, and who scares the NDP supporters so much that they flock to the LPC of PC Mark Carney effectively locking them out of power until god only knows when.
The CPC probably needs to reinvent itself and PP is not the man to do it, because in the 23 years since forming a coalition of the right, having only one Prime minister to their name and one majority government is really an abject failure.
If they drop another 7% they'll take the belt from the Liberals.
Poilievre has been pressing the government on spending, deficits, economic policy and more recently transparency and parliamentary oversight.
Yes, Poilievre has been auditioning for the position of leader of the opposition quite well, and if he continues the way he has, he will keep that job for as long as he likes.
Because when one asks Canadians what they most care about right now, spending, deficits, economic policy, transparency and parliamentary oversight are the big ticket items Canadians are really hot under the collar about.
