Every single thing posted about this so far is pure conjecture, much of it disingenuous. We have no clue what the deliberate vague term associate member even means.
There is exactly zero chance that Canada will become a full member. The process is long and the pipeline is already full of other countries going through the process of becoming members. Moreover, the EU "constitution" would have to be amended to allow any non-European nation to apply for membership - and consent to amend must be unanimously approved by each of the 27 member countries.

Even if it leads to no new major agreements with the EU, it sends a signal to EU member states that this government is serious about doing business with them.

What's interesting is that right off the bat the Australians were like, 'Hold on their Mate, we may want to be involved in this too.'
Australia, one of the few countries that had a trade DEFICIT with the US but still had a 12.5% tariff rate slapped on all their goods.

Devil will be in the details once any agreement goes to parliament for ratification. If we can make it for European companies to set up shop here, all the better, especially combined with the new tax announcements and defense investment bank. We could became the safe backyard to produce munitions etc

The one thing we can be absolutely sure of is that any debate in parliament will have full transparency and full public view. Debates certainly won't be moved In Camera.

Either way the full text of the bill will be public. For all to judge, realistically not many watch CPAC anyway and get their highlights on the 6 o clock news

It's funnier to do it with people watching.
The issue is whether Canadians get to see the parliamentary scrutiny and debate that leads to the decision.
Carney has said this EU arrangement will go through Parliament and that it will all roll out transparently". If parts of the debate are moved In Camera Canadians can read the finished agreement without being able to hear the arguments, objections, questions and government responses that shaped it. Pretty important stuff.
not many people watch CPAC isn't really an argument against transparency.
