Fine? No. We do remain the target of significant predatory trade actions by our largest and dominant trading partner though, so it’s unsurprising. We’ll see in a few months how it’s looking with more data coming in.

Frankly I’m surprised we’re not in outright recession. A lot of our defensive play is strategic/structural with pretty long lead times before we can expect to realize much benefit. Resource projects take time to get off or (or into) the ground.

Strategy continues. Weather the storm best we can, and diversify diversify dirvesify.

Fine? No. We do remain the target of significant predatory trade actions by our largest and dominant trading partner though, so it’s unsurprising. We’ll see in a few months how it’s looking with more data coming in.

From another angle, this data might influence the Bank of Canada not to raise interest rates - (as long as inflation remains tame) - which will not sink the housing market, auto sales, general consumer sediment and will not raise the borrow costs of the Federal Government.

Down in the US the various pundits are preaching a 70+% chance that the US Federal Reserve will raise interest rates another 1/4 in October. This will further sink the US housing market, auto sales, will drive up the value of the USD (which makes US exports that much more expensive) and will add billions upon billions to their borrowing costs.

There is always 2 sides to a coin.

The media (and politicians of every stripe at every level of government) are not attacking the company because they were critical of the goverments policies. They are attcking the US owned foreign company who fired Canadian employees as a direct result of the tariffs that have been established...by the US government.

Goncalves said without the ability to export to the United States at the current tariff rates, his “temporary solution” is to concentrate on products that still make the company money and “wait until the situation normalizes.”
