Exactly.  Not sure if the current President would do this for his successor if s/he is from the other party.

Mulroney has spoken at the funerals of Ronald Reagan, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and now George Bush.
Never has such an honour been bestowed upon a former CDN PM, an honour that I dare say will never occur again.

A friend to many, including two great Americans, who were Presidents, but who was pilloried by the Cdn media continually, that resulted in an indoctrinated populous. Happened to another guy, Harper. Now what do we have? A guy who narcissistically tweets away $50M of taxpayers money.

I wrote a post on some other forum I think,that sadly civility is dead. You saw that in spades at the McCain funeral and even this one,when the Clintons snubbed the Trumps,but at least the Obama's were civil and shook their hands. I gotta think that President Carter will be the next to pass. I didn't like Carter in office but his post Presidency has been wonderful.

If people are making comparisons it is because the current POTUS invited it upon himself.  He compared himself to Abe Lincoln and ranks himself as one of the best Presidents ever, so fair game there.  I doubt he can accomplish even a fraction of what George Snr did in 4 years even with 8 years should he win again. I also doubt that any world statesmen will be at his funeral heaping the kind of praise Bush snr is getting.  Well maybe the Saudi Crown prince or North Korea's dear leader.

If comparisons are being made it is because something is sorely missing in the current White House.

Can you blame them - like the Clintons or not, I'm not sure if I could stomach someone who rallied the mob to imprison me for the sake of votes.

To be fair, and because I hate when an error is permitted to propagate to such a point that people believe it's a truth, that money was promised several months ago.  The reason for the tweet is a conversation for another thread.

WRT the funeral ceremony, it's nice to have people of prominence, who have built their careers around speaking in public, not be afraid to show emotion.  Makes it seem that much more heartfelt.

And when Bush gave the former first lady some candy, again.  ;D Very cute.
Stop assuming I'm a man!

A couple of political items about the late  President, that may, or may not, be of interest to future historians.

He was the last Republican to win the Popular Vote in a presidential election ( 1988 ).
