Well honestly we never have been great at toeing the party line. Thank fuck.Shows how you misjudge the Infantry.
The Vandoos are wondering what it can be sold for.
The Royals are debating painting it
The PPCLI are waiting to see what the other two do, so they can do something differentโฆ
The PPCLI were private military contractors before it was coolWell honestly we never have been great at toeing the party line. Thank fuck.
I'll buy a lifetime supply of whatever they drink if someone in Army G1 tosses the kilts out completely and just makes everyone wear pants. Was looking over those slides this afternoon. It looks sharp, and from what I can tell from the CADCC RoD, the decision on Forage, Service, and Beret is something each specific corps will hammer out.
My educated guess based on some of the implied rumblings:
-Forage Cap will be a game time decision for individual Corps/Regiments. I believe the RRCA is leading the charge on this one, however, I am curious what the rest of the Corps fell toward this initiative; in that the Armoured Corps will ignore the initiative and go with Berets regardless and the 3 Reg F infantry Regiments seem to be apathetic to the whole thing.
-Peaked Service Cap is only for No 3 Dress (Ribbons, no Sam Browne or White belt), so my assumption is that it would be an optional item, either kitted out at initial issue and then purchased for replacements, or bought through Logistik Unicorps.
- Berets are the default that everyone keeps circling back to. There seems to be an understanding that everyone that has a distinct beret will keep wearing it with this new Service Dress, but that makes things weird for everyone else pushing for the Forage Cap option.
-Kilted folks will continue to be the anomaly with what they put on their head, and no one in Army G1 wants to touch that with a 10 ft caber.
As the CCA has signed his approval to the design and wearing of the uniform as per the slide show, I am happy this is moving from "concept" to "kit out complete date established" within a year and a half.
No, I just think they look ridiculous.
Then again, I don't think I've ever met a gunner with any fashion sense, so it checks out.
Maybe the navy needs to trial a uniform that is mixture of square rig and fore and aft.

Funny on the RCAC point, last I heard it'll be up to the Regiments to determine the quirks of their uniforms, hats included. Did this change recently? Was looking over those slides this afternoon. This was just my WAG from deciphering the CADCC minutes.Funny on the RCAC point, last I heard it'll be up to the Regiments to determine the quirks of their uniforms, hats included. Did this change recently?
Also is it just me or is the Officer footwear brown (like belt and gloves) and the NCM footwear black?
Seems like astupidBritish differentiation.
On a very recent battlefield tour the owner, who was the tour conductor, said the reason the PPCLI were in this particular battle was because they were Militia! The PPCLI were private military contractors before it was cool. Being "unique" is part of it's heritage and identity.
To be fair, it's going to be a lot cheaper to change the Scottish regiments over to the new uniform, it's a jacket shirt and tie.I'll buy a lifetime supply of whatever they drink if someone in Army G1 tosses the kilts out completely and just makes everyone wear pants.
I'll put their kids through college if they make all the infantry wear the same cap badge, though that one's just for shits and giggles.
Jackets all need to be specifically tailored to wear with a kilt.To be fair, it's going to be a lot cheaper to change the Scottish regiments over to the new uniform, it's a jacket shirt and tie.
... except they have specific doublet cuts in the system for kilted regiments...Jackets all need to be specifically tailored to wear with a kilt.
The Patricias were privately raised by Hamilton Gault who put up $100,000 at the time. The Orignals consisted of 1049 all ranks - the majority of them had served in other armies. On a very recent battlefield tour the owner, who was the tour conductor, said the reason the PPCLI were in this particular battle was because they were Militia!
I attempted to correct him, but being an arrogant Brit, he just cut me off and ignored me.
I'm super late to this thread party, but I'm doing an undergrad thesis on CAF uniforms, so I'm "researching". Ref JTF2 blending into ordinary society, I have to laugh. SOF has a "look" that stands out even in civies. Maybe someone should tell them they don't have to wear tactical pants all the time. I saw a bunch of guys walking down Wellington St in Ottawa recently. They had passes on and were heading into a building across from parliament. Every one of them looked like every JTF2 person I've met. Sometimes, the more one tries to obfuscate something, the more it stands out. Maybe they should just get regular haircuts.I think the JTF2 issue is a red herring. There's an operational need for them to blend into ordinary society on occasion. It's not a matter of style affectation. They have a completely different set of individuals who are self motivated and develop their expertise in a completely different way then the average young soldier coming in off the street.
Building self discipline has a variety of components - dress, deportment and pride in ones appearance and unit is just a very few of them.
And with that I'm on to other things.

More often than you'd think since cubicle lands (like NDHQ) are also where a lot of ceremonies and events happen that call for 1As. Since the tunic with medals instead of ribbons is all it takes to go from DEU 3 orders to DEU 1A, it's quite common for people to have their tunics in a suit bag in the locker at their cubicle.A new Land 'CA' DEU is long overdue, however it would be interesting to know how many CA members actually wear theirs more than a handful of times per year. I'm guess'timating under 10%.
...and even then, how many folks who wear DEUs on a daily basis ever rock their service jacket 'tunic' in cubicle-land?
Now that we are wearing operational dress in the NCR, the usefulness of No. 3 orders of dress has diminished greatly.More often than you'd think since cubicle lands (like NDHQ) are also where a lot of ceremonies and events happen that call for 1As. This is a bug that may remain a feature. Now that we are wearing operational dress in the NCR, the usefulness of No. 3 orders of dress has diminished greatly.
So a Garrison Dress?Perhaps, if the CAF wants to continue to have No 3 orders of dress, they should modernize it away from being No 1s, but without medals. Perhaps make it from comfortable and low maintence materials, in a comfortable cut.
The RCN has switched away from No 3s for shore units in Esquimalt as well, so I suspect there is more than just the CA's DEU shortages at play. This is a bug that may remain a feature.
The swap from No. 3s to Operational Dress in the NCR was made because LU has depleted stock of the former style of Army DEU while they retool and stock the new Canadian Army Service Dress. As the RCAF and RCN would be disadvantaged in being required to wear No. 3s while the CA pers wore Operational Dress, it became an "all for one" decision.
If this remains after the new Canadian Army Service Dress is in full role out, that remains to be seen.
I wore No 4 "Work Dress" for the first few years I was in. It was dropped to simplify our orders of dress, and because it didn't look "military" enough. So a Garrison Dress?
Kidding aside, I think we overuse operational dress and underuse No. 3 Dress. There is no reason why in Garrison we wear the asses out of the most expensive clothing we wear because we cannot be arsed to wear business attire.
I suspect the shittiness of the uniforms is exactly why it has been relegated to being used only a few times a year. If we had a "service" dress that wasn't miserable to wear, people wouldn't object to wearing it so much. The fact that we turned business attire into a "once or twice a year" parade uniform due to discomfort and ahitty material is another issue entirely.
But I like wearing PJs to work.......This is a bug that may remain a feature.
