-2019–2023: approximately 4,000 Indian citizens who entered Canada on study permits were charged with 17,929 offences.
-Of those charges, approximately 4,920 were categorized as serious or organized-crime-related.
-97% of those serious/organized-crime-related charges were violent.
2024: approximately 2,418 Indian citizens on study visas were charged with more than 13,040 offences.
The Criminal Code should be amended to prevent immigration status from being a consideration during sentencing.
