What organization does this “team” belong to?Oh boy, theres a team working on a plan to upgun the TAPVs...hilarity will ensue.
Aside from the handful in-service, DND pays DEW Engineering to keep a quantity of these in preservation for the possibility that we develop a need/want to put some back on service.I read something recently - can't recall where - that TLAVs are down to being counted by the handful.
I've never heard anything like that. It's already a very high vehicle. Can't see how you would add an MLRS module onto it without having it tip over in a strong breeze.I heard the RCA had a wild idea to make it a MLRS
Probably good reason I only saw it in a power point once.I've never heard anything like that. It's already a very high vehicle. Can't see how you would add an MLRS module onto it without having it tip over in a strong breeze.
It does have enough capacity to make a decent OPV or STA platform with the right add on stations, but that makes them stand out and be priority targets within a LAV company. (There's a lot of benefit in looking like all the stuff around you when you are special)

Yeah. Thought so.Queen Marrys but converted to tlav as I understand it.
At least their getting a lions share of ACSV to fill troop carrier and CP roles. TAPVs for SUAS and TSMs.Yeah. Thought so.
Back in 2004 when the M109s were shitcanned and we were left with nothing but LG1s and C3s, the artillery's full fleet of tracked vehicles (M577s, M113s, M548s and M578s) were also withdrawn. That of course left the entire branch without any command post vehicles, ammo limbers or even gun and detachment tractors for many years. Everything was ad hoc'd into absurdity.
Things eventually stabilized (a bit) at least for Afghanistan where the M577s and M113 (TLAV versions) came back as CP vehicles, STA det vehicles, and even the guns' detachment vehicles to haul the crew around and provide local security. Regiments in Canada were poorly equipped for well over a decade having only a few of the vehicles needed for operations and frequently nowhere near enough for training.
I don't want to have the arty wear a hair shirt here - nobody was well equipped over the last two decades - but it's been ridiculous. It's unsurprising that a small number of tracked M577s are VOR with a logistics and maintenance system now geared heavily to fleets of wheeled vehicles.

Having spent my years in fully equipped regiments I sometimes find it hard to imagine how things went on over the last 20 years. I have a ton of respect - especially for the Snr NCOs - who held it all together and kept the corporate knowledge alive. As I am engaged in exercises to re-equip and re-organize, I constantly marvel at how poorly equipped we've been for my entire career. Amateur hour.

Have you figured out how manygreen pick upswhite SUVs you canbuyrent per year yet?
I think one of the issues we face is our own pride in being able to do everything with nothing. We’ve done it for so long our leadership expects it and thus will not commit to procuring the proper equipment because we’ve always made it work.As I am engaged in exercises to re-equip and re-organize, I constantly marvel at how poorly equipped we've been for my entire career. Maybe there is some of that. But I have encountered a lot of people who have only known the state of being under-resourced and of compromising operations to meet tight budgets. They have only known the band-aids that we have put in place to make-do & compensate for shortages, and they honestly believe those band-aids are what right looks like.I think one of the issues we face is our own pride in being able to do everything with nothing. Got a hand on the new C7 or whatever it is called the other day. My first question was
“Can I have one?”
You most likely saw the C25 Rifle which will be the general issue rifle. The Infantry and select other trades will be given the C26 rifle., which will have a slightly longer barrel (greater max effective range) and a more powerful variable optical sight.Got a hand on the new C7 or whatever it is called the other day. The unfortunate effect of the Million LAV Army, symmetrical and useless. The three or four TLAVs in 1 RCHA can't make it out of the parking lot but are still on the docket.
I get concerned that then people might think it was a fighting vehicle. An ATMG would at least allow a TAPV a fighting chance... I guess
The longer barrel kills me, as the system as I understand it is optimized for 5.56mm HiP - which gives superior performance from an 11.5" barrel than a 20" C7 barrel has with C77 ball well out past 800m.You most likely saw the C25 Rifle which will be the general issue rifle.
